Chapter 4:

Martin was feeling a little down lately. He hadn't seen Danny in over a week. The case he was working on was keeping him away from his new boyfriend. He had to cancel three dates that they'd made this week and he knew Danny was probably pissed off by it. He knew he'd be pissed off by it if the shoe were on the other foot.

He sighed as he slipped out of his car and into the Courthouse parking lot. He really hoped that Danny didn't have any plans for them tonight. Martin was finally able to make a date and all he wanted to do was go to his apartment and sulk.

The case had been another one of those tough ones that left Martin wondering what was wrong with the world. He just wanted to be able to spend a quite night at home with Danny.

Martin walked inside the courthouse, most people were home for the night, and made his way over to Danny's office. His secretary had gone home for the night. Martin was grateful for that. He was getting sick of her glares.

Really did she think that she was at all intimidating? Martin sure hoped not because if she did she was in for the surprise of her life. Martin knocked on the door to Danny's office.

"Come in." Danny's voice said from the other side of the door.

Martin obeyed and walked inside. He saw Danny, covered by many case files looking utterly tired and frustrated. Martin frowned.

"Martin, shit I forgot we had a date tonight. I didn't make any plans." Danny said as he shifted some files around on his desk.

"That's okay. I was kind of hoping that maybe we could just... I don't know go back to my place."

Danny raised an eyebrow and smirked.

"I didn't mean it like that. I mean not that I don't want to because... look I was just hoping you didn't make any plans anywhere special because I don't think I'm up for much company." Martin said sighing.

"So what am I?" Danny asked.

"I said much company. I'm up for your company."

"Really."

"God, I'm just speaking in innuendoes tonight. What I meant was..."

"I get it, Fitzie. You had a tough day at work." Danny said.

"Try a tough week."

"Yeah well if it's any consolation, my day wasn't much better. You know that case I've been working on for about two weeks?"

"The one with the guy who shot that liquor store clerk?"

"Yup, that's the one. Well, I got all my evidence ready and waiting to be seen and I spent two weeks getting everything just right. I mean the case was a fucking slam dunk, but turns out the stupid asshole detectives got all gung ho and went into his apartment without a search warrant. Now I can't even convict him on anything. He's going to walk. That liquor store clerks wife and kids aren't going to get any justice. I've been looking through all the evidence trying to find something to convict him on and I've got nothing." Danny said.

Martin frowned. Danny had told him what little he could about the case. It was a robbery gone wrong and the suspect was someone who was already way dirty to begin with. Danny had been so sure he was going to get the guy. Martin knew that feeling. He also knew the feeling of not getting the guy who was responsible. He knew that all to well.

"Well I guess we've both had a hard day. You know if you want we can just do this some other..."

"Some other time. I've heard you say that all week. Nope, not gonna happen. Now that I've got you here Fitzie I'm not just gonna let you weasel out and go sulk in the corner by yourself. If we're going to sulk we might as well do it together."

"Hmm... yeah I guess. Let's go. Your place or mine?" Martin said small smirk on his face.

"Oh see now you're deliberately teasing. Let's go to yours. I know where it is and it's closer." Danny said standing up.

He didn't bother to put on his suit jacket or roll down his sleeves or fix his tie not that Martin cared. Danny looked good when he was all disheveled like that. Danny looked good no matter how he looked. He just turned off the light on his desk and shut off his computer before walking over to Martin.

Martin smiled and stood up and felt himself become dizzy. He grabbed onto the chair to try and steady himself. He felt Danny close by him, steadying him Danny's hands on his hips.

"Whoa, easy there, Martin." Danny whispered into Martin's ear.

"Yeah, sorry, must be tired." Martin mumbled.

"Really, just tired, huh. Well when's the last time you ate? Or sat down? Or slept? Or any of that." Danny asked concern evident in his voice.

"I've been working." Martin said a bit defensively.

"Yeah so have I, but I've still been able to stop for things like eating and sleep."

"Look this case has been really important. Jack didn't seem to mind that I was pulling all these shifts without sleep. We found the guy. He's going to jail. I did my job so I'm not going to feel bad that I'm a little hungry and tired."

"Oh just a little. You're about ready to collapse. I would call that more than just a little hungry and tired."

"Can we not fight about this right now. I just want to go home and sleep and eat."

"And that's exactly what we're going to do. I'm driving you back to your place and then I'm going to feed you."

"What about my car?"

"We'll take your car."

"What about your car?"

Danny was quiet for a moment before sighing.

"You'll just have to take me to work tomorrow morning." Danny said after awhile.

"So... you're staying the night." Martin said slightly nervously.

"Yeah, I guess I am. It's the third date anyway, Fitzie."

"But see when I imagined you coming over to my place to spend the night I thought that there was going to be a little more activity than eating and sleeping."

"Well if you play your cards right..."

"I don't think I'm up for anything that I would have to play my cards right for. I'm not even up to playing my cards right." Martin grumbled.

Danny laughed.

"Come on. You're dead on your feet. Lets get you home."

"Best idea you've had in awhile Taylor."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"That was really good. What exactly did you make? I mean I usually order take out so I have no idea what's good in my fridge." Martin said wiping the corner of his mouth with a napkin.

He and Danny were currently sitting on his couch. The television was turned on to something that Martin could careless about. Danny had driven as fast as he could to Martin's place. When they had gotten there he had all but carried Martin inside and into his apartment. He made Martin lie down on the couch as he searched the kitchen for something edible. He'd come back twenty minutes later, Martin was almost asleep on the couch, with a plate of what looked like two sandwiches in hand.

He'd forced Martin to eat both of them. Martin had said that Danny should eat something, but Danny had said that he had eaten at work. Martin shrugged and started to eat the food that Danny had brought him.

Martin had quickly finished the two sandwiches, Danny watching him the entire time from the other side of the couch.

"Yeah I was surprised to see the bareness of your fridge. Mine's fully stocked. I like cooking. I got ready to make breakfast burritos thinking you had everything, but you don't have any tortillas. Next time I have to feed you were going to my place. I ended up just putting the egg and stuff on bread." Danny said.

"So that's what I just ate. Breakfast sandwiches." Martin said as he put the plate down on the coffee table.

"Guess you could call it that. I think they were pretty good if I do say so myself."

"Did you hear any complaints?" Martin asked.

Danny smiled at him softly.

"So... this is Martin Fitzgerald's apartment. It's nice." Danny said.

"I guess. I haven't been here that long so it isn't exactly cozy, but it's a place to go when I get done with work everyday."

"I noticed you have cats."

"Yeah. Two of them."

"Can I ask their names?"

"Hmm... that don't really have names."

Danny cocked an eyebrow and frowned.

"How can they not have names. They're pets Martin. Pets have to have names."

"Well the tabby, I've had him for a few years now, I named Whiskers cause of his long whiskers, but the other one, the big fat white fur ball... she doesn't have a name. I just call her Cat." Martin said.

"Whiskers and Cat. Interesting names there, Fitzie." Danny said.

"Yeah, well they're my cats so I can name them whatever I want to." Martin said pulling a blanket up from off the ground.

He draped himself in it and sighed. Danny rolled his eyes and pulled Martin close to him. Martin laid between his legs, the blanket draping over the both of them. Martin rested against Danny and closed his eyes. Danny sighed and wrapped his arms around Martin's waist.

"This is really nice." Martin said.

"It is really nice. Best time I've had in awhile."

Martin smiled. He turned a bit so that he was laying on his side, most of his body on Danny's chest. He sighed and closed his eyes again. He could fall asleep easily like this.

"Go ahead and sleep, Fitzie. I'm not going anywhere."

Martin did as he was told.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Martin felt himself wake up slowly. He nuzzled down into his pillow only to come in contact with hard buttons. Martin frowned in his sleep and moved a bit. Something beneath Martin moaned and Martin eyes opened widely. He looked over and saw Danny sleeping soundly beneath him.

Martin smiled and stretched a bit. His couch wasn't exactly the most comfortable place in the world even if he was sleeping on it with Danny.

"Hmmm... Martin."

Martin looked down at Danny who was moving a bit in his sleep. He wasn't awake.

"Danny... Danny wake up. It's not very comfortable on the couch."

"I don't want to."

"Okay see, now I know you're awake. Come on my bed's more comfortable. And it's late. If we don't move now I'm never going to be able to get up for work tomorrow."

"You say that like it's a bad thing. We should just call in sick."

"I can't..."

"Why not? You worked hard this week. Stay home." Danny said, his eyes opening hesitantly.

"Work..."

"I know, it's important, but you're not going to be of much use if you're falling asleep on the job. I'm sure your boss will understand."

"Maybe."

"Maybe yes." Danny said teasingly.

"I don't know. Maybe. That's why I said maybe."

"You're a handful, Fitzie, you know that."

"Yeah, but it's one of my better qualities." Martin said with a big smile on his face.

He leaned down and kissed Danny, lips brushing against lips, but Danny wasn't going to settle for that. His head pushed Martin's head closer to his own, their kissing getting a little more frenzied and Martin's hands ran down Danny's sides.

Martin used Danny's tie to pull Danny up into the sitting position, immediately straddling his lap when he did. They kissed, Martin rocking against Danny just a little because he couldn't control himself and it was Danny.

"I thought you weren't up to playing your cards right." Danny said just before he started kissing Martin again.

His lips gently moving against Martin's and Martin felt him push into it. Felt him moan and demand more.

"I guess I was wrong because I'm certainly up for something." Martin whispered when he pulled away to breath.

"Now that was just corny Fitzie. Corny as all well. Probably the corniest thing I've ever heard another person say."

"Who gives a fuck, I want you." Martin said.

"Talk like that's gonna earn you a trip to the bedroom."

"You say that like it's a bad thing."

"Impatient."

"Just a little. Let's move."

They made it to the bedroom on shaky legs, stopping every once in awhile to steal sloppy wet kisses against the walls of Martin's hallway before continuing on their path. Once there Danny lightly pushed him onto the bed, eyes glinting with something akin to lust.

He made slow work of taking off Martin's clothes, pulling gently at things and then carelessly flinging them around the room not caring where they landed. Martin watched him as he did so, moaning a little when Danny would stop to kiss a part of exposed skin.

When Danny was done with his clothes, he got up and hurriedly took off his own so fast that Martin couldn't savor it. He was on him before Martin knew what hit him, mouths connecting again as they kissed.

"Condoms... lube..." Danny whispered into his mouth.

"Oh god... the drawer..." Martin whispered back.

Danny smiled, his hand rooting around for the items in question never once pulling away from Martin or Martin's mouth. Martin smiled when he heard Danny's breathy 'yes', Danny's face lighting up just a little as he found what he had been looking for.

Long minutes stretched out as Danny's fingers pushed inside him, stretching him and Martin knew the good part was going to come. The part where Danny was inside of him and Martin groaned just at the thought. Danny continued to kiss him and stroke him and lick him at every available surface of skin and Martin felt it.

Felt the whispery, feather like kiss up and down his collarbone, but Martin saw more than felt the exact moment when Danny pushed into him. Saw it in Danny's face, his eyes wide and glazed look, his mouth slack and hung open. It was a look that Martin knew he wanted to see more of. A look he couldn't believe he was generating.

When Danny started moving, started thrusting into him with slow and steady thrusts, Martin moaned. It had been so long since he'd had any sort of contact and the way Danny was moaning and panting, Martin couldn't help himself if he found it incredibly hot.

Couldn't help it if he found Danny incredibly hot, which he so did. Everything about Danny was hot. Everything about Danny was appealing to him. Everything about Danny screamed right and what they were doing at that moment, the leisure pace, the shaky noises the pants and moans and grunts and everything about the way Danny touched him and kissed him and moved with him screamed right.

Everything about the moment was perfect.

"It'd be pretty stupid to say I love you right?" Danny asked teasingly afterwards, his breath coming in harsh pants while he tried to catch his breath.

He looked just as happy and satisfied as Martin felt.

"I think you need to go on at least five dates before you start even thinking about that kind of stuff." Martin said curling up against Danny who had flopped onto the other side of the bed.

"Hmmm... guess I'll have to keep that in mind. You know, I'm really tired now."

"Yeah, so am I. Sleep is definitely in order."

"Definitely."

Martin watched as Danny drifted off to sleep before falling asleep as well. It didn't come as any surprise that they didn't make it into work the next day.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"And that's it. That's what happened our first time." Martin said as squirmed a little in his seat.

He'd just explained to someone who was just barely a little more than a complete stranger some of the most intimate moments of his life. He looked over a Sam nervously to see what her reaction would be. Her eyes were wide and her mouth was open and Martin was almost tempted to tell her to look at the road because she was making him nervous.

"Wow."

"Wow?"

"Wow as in that's really... wow. Just... you gotta remember Martin, up until today I thought you were like a robot that just went home and plugged yourself in. That... was unbelievably romantic." Sam said.

"It was a pretty good first time with someone." Martin said, his voice getting a little dreamy sounding.

"You're still in love with him aren't you?" Sam asked.

"Well, yeah. I think part of me is always going to love him. I mean... he was the first person I ever really loved."

"So why'd it end."

"Sam..."

"Am I getting pushy?"

"No, it's just... we didn't end... very well. In fact it was bad. It was very bad and I don't really like to think about it."

"Fair enough. Are you scared?"

"Scared?"

"That we're not going to find him. Are you scared for him?"

Martin looked at Sam and sighed, frowning just slightly at the new line of questioning. It was sort of obvious. Of course he was scared. Why wouldn't he be scared?

"Yes, yes I am scared. Even if it did end bad... even if... I can't hate him Sam. I can't wish him dead. I can't pretend like he isn't a big part of me and who I am. I can't act like he didn't have some hand in making me who I am today because he did. I don't... I don't want him to die. Not like this." Martin said.

"Then I think we need to do everything we can to find him."

"I thought you didn't even like him?"

"Well, you're convincing me otherwise. So keep going. Keep making him human."
