University History

From its proclamation as a nation in 1877, the people of the Kingdom of Humanity/Republic of Morac-Songhrati-Meads have thirsted for knowledge. For many years this thirst lead many of our brightest students to head overseas to study, mainly at British or Australian universities. Following the end of World War I there was a growing concern in the Kingdom of a serious brain drain as many scholars accepted lucrative positions overseas. To rectify this, in 1924 King Franklin I founded the University of Southwark and appointed Professor Andrew Fisher as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor.

Under the supervision of Professor Fisher (pictured left), the University of Southwark grew from a small building offering a smattering of courses to a large building on Morceambe Bay offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Professor Fisher served as Vice-Chancellor until 1939 when he was evacuated prior to the Japanese invasion of our archipelago.

Like so many other Songhrato, Professor Fisher was a casualty of the war, dying in an air raid on Darwin, Australia in 1942.

Following the war, Professor Kym Slattery was appointed Vice-Chancellor, one of the first instances of a female Vice-Chancellor in the world. Professor Slattery began rebuilding the University and expanded the curricula to include innovative new courses like Tropical Horticulture and Asian Studies.

Until the University's temporary closure in 1971 following the illegal invasion of Morac-Songhrati-Meads, the University of Southwark was considered a first rate university through Asia and attracted overseas students and staff.

The King Franklin Tower stands in the centre of the University campusFollowing the illegal invasions of our homeland, it was decided at a University Council meeting to continue to offer University of Southwark degrees through correspondence.
