Building A Leading Link Front End

Before we get started let me just lay out the process right here at the start.

Before you start actually building your front end, its a good idea to get all your basic parts together first. You'll need a wheel, an axle and spacers maybe 3 or 4 washers that will fit the axle, the speedo drive if you plan to use the stock motorcycle cable driven speedo. The speedo drive also doubles as one of the spacers, so its not a bad idea to have it in any case. The wheel can be whatever you have or like. I prefer the small 16" wheels. I just like the looks, but any size will work just fine. You will also want to have your steering head on hand so you can get the correct spacing on your triple trees. You can't put it all together without the Head. Then you want to have the materials on hand to make the Rockers and forks. This is probably a good place to add the materials list. These are the metals I use. You might want to use round stock or heavier stuff or whatever. So you make the adjustment as needed.

1 1/2"x3/16" Square mild steel tubing.....about 6 foot

1 1/2"x1/2" flat stock for rockers... about 4 foot

1/2"x6" flat plate Width must be determined before you purchase or if you plan to cut it yourself about a 24" piece will be plenty.

Steering head 1" bearings and 1- 10" long 1" bolt & nut

2 Shocks. Usually a pair off a 350 to 500cc Motorcycle will do just fine. They don't need to be real heavy. Med. weight is good.

Thas it, not much needed to build your front end. I buy my steering heads from these guys. Excellent

Find a nice flat work space to build your front end on. If your table or bench is nice and flat, you'll be able to just lay out your work and know that things will be correct when you start to weld things together. Ok, I'm assuming you have this part all together. So now we'll move on and actually start to build your Leading Link front end.
