A whirlwind... Mood: chillin' Topic: One Ramblin' Ranter!
We have been busy little beavers. My mom and auntie showed up on Sunday. We headed out for a meal at Olive Garden and then to see the movie the Devil Wears Prada. Which was pretty funny and yes the movie was partially my idea. It was good fun and we found ourselves laughing through the movie and enjoying the show.
Today I was off so we headed out of the house about 9 AM. It was a late start but everyone ate and we got to see a review of yesterdays Tour De France. We headed East to the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Route that held wonderful views and spectacular waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls. We had stopped at the historic Vista House and 2 falls before Multnomah. Don't worry unlike my dad I actually share pictures of my trips they will be up sometime this week. Anyway we had lunch at the Multnomah Falls Lodge and the walked up to get a closer view. After snapping several pictures we headed towards the freeway and stopped at one more falls before heading downtown.
Downtown we perused Powell's City of Books for an hour and then over to the Whole Foods. We headed South to my side of the world and stopped for pizza at Pizza Schmizza. After a fantabulous slice or two we headed to the theaters to catch Superman Returns. Let's just say that the movie is better then the reviews seem to imply.
ANyway it is past my bedtime because I am back at work at 5 AM tomorrow. So I will write and share a little more later.
i disagree, i thought superman was just about as good as the reviews, but for different reasons. i hate it when they change the story that far off of the comic. call it a pet pieve. i know some of that has to happen, they are condensing decades of story into only a few hours, but please people, superman as a deadbeat dad!!!! "does he still stand for truth, justice, and um, you know, that other stuff?" i wish i had never read and enjoyed those comics as a kid when i see movies like that, so that i could simply walk in and drool on myself and like the damn things. it wasnt badly done. it had some very, very stimulating dialoge ("louis, um, uh, well, um, ......hi.")
and to those astute readers who remember my rambling post a few months ago, yes, my boycott of dc comics movies was violated. but at least i didnt pay for it, my wife gets free movie tix from work. we have like 20 of them and we cant use them fast enough. but the boycott is still on, hell with it!!!

Superman an unfit father? How could that be? He didn't know about the kid. He might be a wham, bam, thank you maam kinda guy but he can't be a bad father if he doesn't know he has a kid. I mean obviously he is not a guy that sticks around for the morning after to sweetly carress his lady but c'mon! I can't say I have a great frame of reference for superman. I never read many of his comics. The most I read was when he died the first time in '93. So my biggest experience was when he was dead. I have always thought Superman was corny and a little hard to get into. I mean the guy is indiestructable, he has heat vision, ice breath, he can fly, he is quick, and nothing can destroy him or harm him without the aid of kryptonite and yet he keeps ending up in places with kryptonite and gets smacked around a lot. I mean when does a villain not use Kryptonite against him? He always gets beat around in every movie. It's rediculous. If he used his brain a bit maybe he could avoid those situations. I mean Batman has no powers and yet he is one of the first to have taken Superman down. As far as his dialogue as clark... when was he ever well spoken as clark? It is part of his disguise, as feeble as it is, noone would expect Superman to be a clumsy geek with woman problems.
Nothing like a boycott where you still actually see the movie. Way to go!
So yeah I liked superman get over it you anti super hero movie watching freak! hehe
anti super hero watching? hey, i loved "great american hero" and i watched it every day.
man, now i am going to have that damn song stuck in my head. thanks jackass. "believe it or not, im walking on air. i never thought i could be so fre ee eeeeeeee!"
the movies have never gotten into supes other weaknesses for some reason. he is susceptible to magic. totally messes with him. cant see through lead. is too trusting. his love for people is often used against him, like if a bad guy cant win they will hurt others to get away or distract him and they know he will have to let them go.
common superhero trait, but with him its even worse.
supes was always the biggest boyscout in comics. everyone else had some dark past or bad streak in them. not superman. he grew up in the midwest on a farm and even with unlimited power and stunning good looks and big blue eyes he always embodied the best of small town upbringing. they said it in the movie, he cannot lie. he gets cats out of trees for old ladies. he and lois have the best marriage in comics, rivaling the beavers. they have been uncannily devoted to each other for decades. the few times supes has lost it, even a little, it was because something happened to her. and they can never have kids, their physiologies are too dissimilar.
so, this is why i keep saying this is not superman. if they made a movie about a superman like character with these traits, it would have been fine. but you cant call a movie batman when bruce didnt loose his parents. you cant make an xmen movie where they dont have the mansion. it is an integral part of the story, and what people expect when they get there. think superman without the cape and "s," its that bad.
and the whole crystals into cities thing was especially stupid.

What you need to do is start watching Smallville. They do a better job of exploring his weaknesses. He has fallen victim to magic and of course Kryptonite. He also deals with having to save people instead of getting the bad guy. And he deals with keeping a secret from people he would rather tell.
