(Wildborn name is the feeling of searching, and the image of a shadow)
Bonded: None
Sire: Rainbow
Dam: Farsight
Siblings: Phantom, Thunderstrike
Mate: Image
Progeny: Moonwalk, Mirror, Rainshadow
Birth date: 34 A, 56 ADT
Location: Wildborn, leader of the Shadow Herd
Height: 17 hands
Colour: blue and with white streak and white socks, and a rainbow mane,
tail and feathers
Build: tall and rangy
Talent: he is able to use shadows to open gateways through which he and his herd can pass through. A useful talent, which cuts down on their traveling time and effectively, breaks up their trail. Shadowstalker can gate anywhere he wants within a five-mile radius but MUST know the area he is gating to, and that area too must have a shadow he and his herd can gate out of.
History & personality: The leader of one of the largest
wild herds in the Khalacopf Mountains, Shadowstalker is known to his
herd to be stubborn and overbearing at times, and very demanding. His word
is law in his herd, but at the heart of his demands and unbending ways is
a very real and deep love for every member. Shadowstalker desires most to
protect his mares, stallions and foals from any dangers real and perceived.
And to Shadowstalker, one of the biggest dangers facing his precious herd are humans. As a young stallion, barely 7 years old, Shadowstalker struck off from his herd, as many independent-minded young stallions will do, and formed a small bachelor herd. He and two other young herdmates and companions, Specter and Bolt, banded together, waiting until the day they could gain and lead their own herd where they could all work together in keeping their herd safe from predators and challengers.
Naive and feeling invincible, the three dared each other one
day to sneak into the UnBondeds meadow at the Academy, where Rainbow had always
forbidden his son and the colts of his herd to go. As they were poking around
and feeling quite daring, the three happened upon an older student on a walk
with one of her friends. She and Specter immediately Bonded, and in terror
Bolt and Shadowstalker bolted for the mountains, leaving their friend behind.
Bonding had always been scored as something to avoid in Rainbow's herd, but
even after repeated contact Specter refused to rejoin them. His mind, even,
seemed different, and Bonding---which both Bolt and Shadowstalker knew very
little about--became construed in Shadowstalker's mind as equal to brainwashing.
The fear and mistrust his father felt for humans deepened in Shadowstalker
until it became very close to hatred.
Bolt, on the other hand, sensed that his friend was happy with his new life
and though he wasn't willing to give up his own life as a wildborn, grew tired
of Shadowstalker's increasingly stormy disposition and decided to return to
Rainbow's herd.
Shadowstalker, feeling abandoned but more determined than ever to form his own herd, soon met the fiery and independent young Image who had run away from her own herd to live a life of freedom in the mountains. Love soon won her over, however, and she became the first member of Shadowstalker's new herd.
His herd now about half the size of his father's herd, Shadowstalker maintains a deep mistrust for humans, bordering on hatred, though his herd remains so secluded in the Khalakopf that his thoughts are usually occupied with more practical matters.
He has disowned his sister, however, who was driven out of his father's herd when she tried to sway the Elders, behind her sire's back, that an alliance between their herd and the Roug was the only way they could protect their land, which at the time was being encroached upon by human woodsmen and hunters. Luckily, -her- alliance with the Roug served the same purpose and all hunting and logging in the northern part of the Khalakopf has been banned. No wildborn, however, knows of this and her name has been dishonored and is not spoken in either herd.
Shadowstalker's son Rainshadow, too, was banished from his own herd after the curious young foal made numerous attempts to make contact with humans. Shadowstalker cared about the young one, but considered him a real threat to rest of his herd and felt it necessary to drive him out.
His oldest daughter, Mirror, left the herd of her own accord to join her Mate.
Shadowstalker is a powerful and viscous fighter.
