Mark Messier
On Nov. 4, 2003 in New York, the 42-year old center scored twice in the Rangers' 3-0 win against the Dallas Stars to take sole possession of second place on the NHL's all-time scoring list. The Blueshirts' captain first tied Gordie Howe's 1,850 career points with a second-period tally against Dallas and passed the Hall of Famer when he notched an empty-netter with five seconds remaining to move into the illustrious No. 2 slot with his 1,851st point.
Throughout his storied career, Messier has been associated with success. He has won six Stanley Cups in his 25 years in the NHL and has amassed more than 680 goals and more than 1,160 assists in more than 1,600 games. Messier also is second on the all-time playoff games, points, goals and assists lists, compiling 295 points in 236 games off 109 goals and 186 assists.
