Choose Your Location
Where will your local rally take place? If there's no rally planned in your area yet, then choose a location and let others know your plans. You could do it near the county courthouse, in a city park, at a busy intersection, a public meeting room, or any other place where you believe you'll meet people who would benefit from knowing about CPS injustices to families. Wherever you decide to hold your rally, be sure to phone the police and/or sherriff's dept. first to make sure your rally will be held in accordance with local laws.

Start a Petition
Many people you meet will agree that CPS is out of control. Ask them to sign a petition that you can present later to the county board of supervisors, or to state or federal legislators. Ask the signers to write their comments on how they feel about CPS.

Get Media Coverage
Let local media representatives know your plans, and ask them to cover your rally. If the press or a newspaper reporter shows up, be sure to take time with them to let them know why you're concerned about informing the community about CPS injustices.

Video Taping
Video tape your rally. Even if your local television news channel doesn't cover the rally, you can document what happens there. Ask participants to talk on video about what CPS has done to them. Share the video with a local news station and/or with the local cable television station.

Advertise
You can advertise in free event columns in the local newspapers. You can get air time with radio public service announcements (see links below) or cable-TV advertising spots. For a small payment you could place an ad in the local shopping newspaper or the daily paper's classified section. Put posters in laundromats and in store windows if permitted. Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper two weeks in advance of your event. Write a press release (see links below).

Write Radio Public Service Announcements
To Announce Your Events
Radio Public Service Announcements (PSA'S) are easy to get aired. They are run at no cost to you. Usually they are 10, 30 or 60 seconds long, so when you write them, you need to time yourself speaking out loud. Call the radio station to see if they have any special requirements, and find out the name of the person to send them to. The announcements must be event specific, and should be typed, double spaced, with your organization's name and contact information at the top.
