411 Rally FAQ
Do I need a permit to hold this rally?
Check with your local law enforcement agencies for information on whether you will need permits. Peaceful assembly is a right guaranteed in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, but there may be local ordinances you need to be aware of. If your plan is to be on county property (ie: courthouse steps) be sure to check with the local sheriff as well as local police. They will usually be glad to answer questions in a simple phonecall. Make sure your plans are legal first, to avoid trouble!
For more information on what's legal and what isn't, please read:
U.S. Constitution: First Amendment.
Who can get involved in this rally?
This Information Day Rally is for anyone who believes that child protective service agencies are out of control and in need of reform. If you agree, you're welcome to participate in distributing the information offered on this website.
What time do I start?
This depends on what kind of events you have planned. If you're planning a public demonstration, start early in the day if possible, while people are working. Some people may need to plan for afternoon or evening programs. Some protest rallys have taken place during the evening rush-hour, targeting information for people getting off work for the day. Every locality will have its own 411 Rally plan, so only you know when it will be time to start.
What should I bring?
Please feel free to print out the posters and flyers offered on this website. You may also design your own or modify these with your local phone or email contact information. If you have good designs for posters and flyers to use locally, please share the information with this website so others can benefit from using your materials. To submit posters or flyers, please send them via email to Jennifer Miller.
Other things you may want to get copies of to distribute: pertinent newspaper articles, information on a CPS case affecting your family, or letters you have sent to legislators in your area.
Should I involve the news media?
Yes! Let the local television stations know your plans and that you would appreciate coverage. This is a great way to get the information out to more people!
How soon should I start planning?
Start now! If you missed this year's rally, start planning for next year.
Should I forward this information to anyone else?
Yes! Send the website URL to everyone you know online and for those you know locally who aren't online but might want to participate, print out a copy of the information to give to them.
How should I advertise?
You can send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper at least 10 days in advance, telling about your Information Day Rally plans and why you will be participating. You can send Public Service Announcements to local radio stations. If your local newspaper has an event calendar, you can submit advertising there. You can put posters on local bulletin boards at stores and laundromats.
