Zac was getting worried. He couldn't find Katie, and now that he knew Ian was there, he was especially nervous.

He turned the corner just in time to see Ian walk up the stairs, grabbing Katie. Zac tried to get through the people quickly, but there were so many.

Ian got her to the top of the steps. He stopped and pressed his lips against hers hard, and roughly groped her body. She screamed and kicked and struggled, but he wouldn't stop.

"Stop! No!" She screamed.

Zac ran back through the hall, into the living room, and into the kitchen, where there was another set of stairs. He ran up them and into the hall, just in time to see a door close. He knew he had to get in there. Ian would get to her.

"Stop." She cried. "Please stop." She sobbed. he threw her on a bed and straddled her. He was so much bigger, it was no use. Ian untied her dress and roughly pulled it down. he started to pull down her panties when he heard a big thud on the door.

Zac threw himself against the door again and again. With one final determined push, the door cracked open. What he saw shocked him. Ian was on the bed, on top of Katie. he had her dress untied and he was groping her body and unzipping his pants.

Zac tackled him before he knew what was happening. He pinned him and threw punch after punch.

"How dare you!" He yelled.

The two boys rolled on the floor for a few moments before Zac re-pinned Ian and punched him again and again. When Ian could no longer move, Zac dragged him out into the hall and shoved him halfway down the stairs. Zac went over to the bed where Katie was sobbing. He slowly sat down beside her. She sat, curled in a little ball, tears streaming down her face. Her dess was torn, and she wouldn't look at him.

"Katie." He said softly. "Are you alright?"

She nodded her head, looking down at the bed. He moved closer to her. She wiped her eyes, and then retied her dress. She pulled up her underwear, then fixed her hair.

She looked at him with tears in her eyes. Her face was red and hot from embarassment. "I'm sorry." he said.

"I didn't get here soon enough." He said sadly.

She threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. Her breath caught in her throat, and she gasped for air, a new set of tears coming.

"No." She said. "You got here just in time." She said, scooting closer to him. She hugged him again, then stood up.

He rose in front of her. "Do you want to go home?" he asked.

"No...i just need a few minutes." SHe said.

"Do you want me to leave?" He asked, turning to go.

"No." She said quickly, grabbing his hand. "No." She said quietly.

"Okay."

"Don't leave."

"I'm not going anywhere." He said. She hugged him, leaning on his chest. he hugged her tighter, knowing that that had been a close call.

"Zac, I was so scared." She finally said.

"I know." He said.

"I don't want to think about what would have happened if you wouldn't have been there-" She said, a fresh set of tears streaming down her cheeks.

"No, no, don't think about that." He said, stroking her hair. "I was there." he said.

"Thank you so much."

"No problem. I'll always be there, Katie." He said, looking at her. "I promise."

"Really?" She sniffed.

"Yes." He said, wiping a tear from her cheek. "He will never touch you again, as long as I'm around."

"Zac-" She started, then started to cry again. He hugged her tightly.

"Are we together now?" He asked a few minutes later.

"What do you mean?" She asked, pulling away slightly.

"You..me....Us." He said. "Are we....a couple?" He asked hopefully.

"Only if you want us to be." She said, looking at her shoes.

"I do." he said, looking down at her.

"I do too."

He paused for a moment. "Katie, will you be my girlfriend?" He asked.

She looked up at him, then smiled through her tears. "Yes." She said, blinking to clear her eyes. Her tears were now of joy.

"YES!" Zac exclaimed. He lifted Katie up in his arms so that she straddled him. "Finally." He said. She smiled, then wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Oh my gosh, Zac!" She exclaimed. She wrapped her arms around his neck.

She looked down at him, and he looked up at her. He leaned closer and closer, until his lips softly touched hers. Katie rejoiced inside, and then moved her hands to his hair. His lips were softer than she imagined, and she could feel his heard beating. She kissed him back lovingly, never wanting them to stop.

A few moments later, they pulled apart, both of them looking at each other for a moment. They both smiled at the same time, and shared a private giggle.

"Katie..." He said, speechless for a few moments.

"Yes?"

"You have no idea how long I've been trying- and wanting to do that." He said with a laugh.

"You have no idea how long I've wanted you to do that." She said with a smile.

He slowly set her down. "Well....Now that Ian's out of the way, and we're together..." Zac said. "Things are looking up." He said.

"Yes, they are." She said.

"Do you want to stay here, or go back down, or go home...or what?" He asked her.

"Um, I think i'll be alright knowing that Ian isn't going to bother me again." She said. "I think we can go back down." She said.

"Okay." He said. "And remember, I'm not leaving your side, so get used to me." He said.

"Believe me, i will." She said. Zac opened the door, and saw that Ian was no longer lying in the dark hallway.

"You still want to go?" He asked her.

"Yeah." She said unsurely.

"Okay." He said.

"Let's take the back stairway." She said, motioning towards the stairs that led into the kitchen. Zac laid his hand on the small of her back, and together they walked down the dark stairwell.

Before they reached the kitchen, she stopped him where they wouldn't be seen. He stopped and looked at her.

"Wait." SHe said, grabbing his arm.

"Okay." He said, coming back up a stair to be level with her.

"Before we go down there..." She trailed off. She leaned towards him. He gave her a devilish grin, and leaned in, giving her a soft kiss on the mouth. They stayed in the dark stairwell for a few more moments.

"How's that?" He asked her.

"Just what i needed." She replied, then proceeded down the steps.

Zac put his arm around her waist as they entered the kitchen.

"Where were you guys?" Nicole asked them, giving Zac an elbow.

"Nowhere." He answered.

"Uh huh. I saw you two coming from upstairs." She said grinning.

"Nicooooole." Katie said, giving her an exasperated sigh.

"What happened to your dress?" Nicole asked, motioning to the two inch tear on Katie's stomach.

"Oh, I caught it on something." She said, looking at Zac.

"Oh." Nicole said, knowing something was up.

"Are you still spending the night?" Katie asked her.

"Uh huh. I'll be right over after i get changed from the party."

"Okay, just come in the back door." Katie said.

"Alrighty." Nicole said. "If you two will excuse me, i've got people to mingle with, cuz i've only got an hour!" Nicole exclaimed.

"Ok." Katie said. The kitchen was full of people, as was the house. The kitchen was now dark, except for light that was coming from the outside porch light.

"She's so funny." Katie said of Nicole after she had left.

"Yeah, but you gotta love her." Zac said with a smile.

"Yeah." Katie said. The two stood in the loud kitchen until midnight, talking with other people, but never leaving each other's side.

"We have to go." Katie reminded him at midnight.

Zac looked at his watch. "Oh, yeah, we do need to leave." He said.

The two slowly made their way to the front of the house, then outside. Zac didn't see his mother. Katie sat down on the porch, holding her head.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"Oh...it's just the music...the people, what happened." She said. "I have a bad headache." She said.

"I can help that." He said. He sat down behind her on the stair and began to slowly rub her temples.

"Ohhh...." She moaned.

"Feel better?" He asked.

"Yeah." She said, sighing contentedly. Zac Hanson was going to be a great boyfriend.
