THE STORY SO FAR
The year was rounded off by doing a fabulous cover of Tiffany's hit "I Think We're Alone Now". They went all out on the video making it into a mini-movie along the lines of Ocean's Eleven. Each girl played a different character involved in a scam to steal money from a casino. It was released in a bid for Christmas Number 1 but Leona Lewis, winner of the X Factor 2006, took it by a mile and the girls settled with a very respectable number 4.
The girls teamed up with the Sugababes for the 2007 Comic Relief single. It was a cover of Aerosmith vs. Run-DMC's "Walk This Way" and just like the original, the bands "battled" it out in the song. The video was also made to look like the original, with Girls Aloud in one room trying to sing more than the Sugababes in the next. The song went straight in at number 1, selling 52,000 in its first week.
Nadine finally spoke publically of her relationship with Jesse Metcalf when the couple appeared on the cover of "OK!" magazine in March. They had met when the band were promoting in Australia a year previously. Nadine was constantly back and forth to LA where she and Jesse were looking for properties. Rumours of the band splitting and Nadine going solo were at an all time high seeing as Nadine seemed to be moving to a different country. She fell in love with LA and convinced her family to move out there where they were to open a chain of Irish bars. Jesse went into rehab for alcoholism and soon after it was reported that the couple had split up.
The girls signed a seven-figure deal with "Sunsilk" to become the faces of their hair product range. They made TV and magazine adverts and each girl wore the colour of one of the five variaties of shampoo the company offers.
It seemed that the longer the band went on, the more popular they became. Their sell-out Greatest Hits tour was proof of it. The girls played to over 150,000 people in 16 arenas all over the UK and Ireland. Strangely, there was no recording of it for a tour DVD.
New album, new sound. All the girls jetted off on various holidays after the tour and came back in July with their new single, uniquely titled, "Sexy! No, No, No...". It was another new sound for the girls and they took the video in a completely new direction. It was very artistic and was an instant hit as it climbed the music channel charts within days of its release. It entered the charts at number 5.
