THE STORY SO FAR
For the previous few weeks the girls had beed filmed 24/7 ready for a new documentary called "Girls Aloud: Off The Record". The documentary was split into half-hour shows which were shown on a Tuesday night on E4 for six weeks. It included the girls' trip to Australia, promotion for "Whole Lotta History", a visit to Greece, Sarah crashing a Ferrari and finally rehearsals for the forthcoming tour. It was a massive hit with the fans as they got a chance to see exactly what it was like to be in the UK's biggest girl band. And it's certainly not easy!
The time had come for the girls' second UK tour. After performing at smaller venues on the previous tour, "Chemistry" was their first arena tour and many of the dates sold out very quickly. Starting off at Nottingham and finising at Wembley, the girls put on one hell of a show at each of the ten venues. The crowds loved them. They performed their singles along with several unreleased tracks from "Chemistry". It was a massive improvement on last year's tour; you could see that a lot more effort had been put in and it definately paid off.
Cheryl and Ashley tied the knot on 15th July 2006 at Wrotham Park, just north of Barnet, Hertfordshire. A "fake" wedding location was leaked to the press to ensure the only pictures taken were by "OK!" magazine, with whom the couple signed a £1 million deal to publish the pictures. Cheryl's dress was designed by Roberto Cavalli, reportedly worth £110,000.
After a well earned break in the summer, the girls came storming back with a completely new sound. "Something Kinda Ooooh" was quite dancey and different to anything the girls had done previously but was instantly a massive hit. It entered the charts at number 5 based purely on downloads which was a record in itself. The following week the CDs were released and it climbed to number 3.
Fans were worried when it was announced that the girls were releasing "The Sound Of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits" as they immediately thought a Greatest Hits meant the end of the band. The girls dismissed these rumours assuring fans it was NOT the end of the band and they simply wanted to put their record 14 consecutive top ten singles on one album. The public loved it and it was the first Girls Aloud album to top the charts. The "Chemistry" tour was released on DVD but renamed to "The Greatest Hits Live" to fit in with the album. The girls also announced they would be doing a Greatest Hits arena tour in 2007 and tickets went on sale.
"Ghost Hunting with Girls Aloud" was eagerly anticipated by people of all ages before it was finally shown on ITV2. Yvette Fielding took Cheryl, Kim, Sarah and Nicola (Nadine was too scared to go!) to three apparently haunted locations where they communicated with various spirits. Nicola kept leaving as she was so scared and it was only Cheryl and Kim who stayed until the very end. Cheryl swears she felt something touch her arm and since doing the show, all the girls seem convinced there's definitely something out there...
