THE STORY SO FAR

With November 2007 came the release of the girls' fourth studio album, "Tangled Up". They bettered themselves again, getting rave reviews with the BBC labeling it "yet another unrelenting pop masterpiece" and also calling Girls Aloud "undoubtedly the best girl band the UK has ever seen". The general release album had a purple cover with no picture of the girls but the official site offered a "fan edition" which had the girls on the cover and contained a lyrics booklet. The album entered the charts at a very respectable number 4. "Call The Shots" was released a week later, which fast became a favourite of the public and reached number 3.

January 2008 brought drama when The Sun released an article calling Ashley Cole a "love cheat". Aimee Walton was claiming to have had a "wild sex romp" with Ashley back in December. Cheryl was obviously devastated and went on a break to Thailand with Nicola and Kimberley to decide what she wanted. A few weeks later she decided she wanted to try and work things out with Ashley and though the pair were seen out together, neither were wearing their wedding rings.

"Can't Speak French" was to be the girls' eighteenth single, which was a popular choice with the fans. The video features the girls crashing a dinner party in eighteenth century French costumes. It entered the charts at number 9, continuing the girls' run of consecutive top ten singles.

Cheryl, Sarah, Kimberley and Nicola agreed to take part in an ITV2 documentary called "The Passions of Girls Aloud". Each girl would have their own episode where they'd try their hand at something they'd always wanted to do. Cheryl's passion was to become a street dancer. We saw her struggle through strenuous training in London and then jet off to LA where she saw street dancing in its rawest form. Her goal was to become good enough to feature as a dancer in Will.I.Am's new video, "Heartbreaker". He liked Cheryl so much that not only did she get the part, she also did vocals for the single. It was released in the UK in May and reached number 4.

The girls returned to the stage in May 2008, kicking off their "Tangled Up" tour in Belfast. The demand was so great, they'd sold out 3 nights there. The tour was praised as their best yet and tickets sold so fast that a second date was added to almost every arena. The girls did 22 shows over May and June then went on holiday to relax.

Shortly after the tour finished it was annouced that Cheryl would be replacing Sharon Osbourne as a judge on "The X-Factor". This was quite possibly the biggest thing that any of the girls had done outside of the band so far.
