The 2002 Clonlara Conference (And Sari and Evan's concert)
June 2002 Letter From The Editor:
Welcome to the first issue of Word For Word. This time around I have decided to write it myself, but the issues following will be made up of mostly things from others. Poems, editorials, reviews, thoughts, etc.
I created Word For Word because it was time. Because homeschooled teens don't really have a magazine that's there to relate to them. Where they can not just kick back and read it, but send in their own stuff and have a pretty good chance of it getting published in the mag. Where we let our artistic side splash out. Where we can all relate to so many things. Where we meet eachother on such a great level, friendships tend to grow.
My name is Starlie Drake. I am 16 years old, I am a student at CompuHigh, and I have been unschooled all of my life. I happily welcome you to the first issue of Word For Word!

June 2002 CompuHigh news:
An Anonymous person posted a message noting that the Learning Edge has more things from 'tots' than teens. 'Is it just me,' Says the anon poster, 'or does Clonlara seem to lean far more towards their younger level of students than their teens? I mean, look at the Newsletter for crying out loud. *picks up most recent issue* We have water colors...fun fun..we have finger paints...fun fun, and oh yes, we have stick figures. Now, not to bash on any of those things (as they have served as a credit in art for me ;-) lol j/k ) but my point is that where do these things come from? I tried to get an article in there forever about this very same issue, and it had to go through this whole screaning process, and then didn't even get in. I guess I should have used finger paints to create something and named it, "MY OPINION ABOUT CLONLARA'S TOT PROGRAM"...maybe then it would have gotten in.'
Starlie replied and suggested a newsletter/magazine. Maryrrjj then replied to that, saying that 'An online newsletter would be awesome!!' So begins the world of Word For Word.
In other news at CompuHigh, life was very slow on the message boards around May 4th. But a story has been started, and those who want to add their bit to the story have created many great things. So far, Peter Pan and the gang has crashed into a window. Peter has given many of the CompuHighers faerie dust which gave them the ability to fly. (This of course doesn't include Razor, who can fly with faerie dust or no.) They are now in Never Never Land. And wait...what is this? I have just gotten word that Angela hasn't quite gotten used to flying and she just crashed into Rachie, who had just landed.
Birthdays have been going around lately. On May 7th, Pilot AKA Emily had her 18th birthday, while on the 10th Sari celebrated her 15th. 'Yay!!' Says Emily. 'No more listening to annoying parent types!' Sari had a song written for her and it was sung by a friend in front of many people. 'Sari Brown, Sari Brown, Sari Brown, Sari Brown, she's got enough love to go around!' (Written and sung by Seth Bernard.)
Thoughts
June 2002
Starlie D.: You know, the best part of the conference was the concert. With Sari and Evan. It just rocked! As Sari would say, that concert 'rocks like socks'. ('maybe even more than socks.') It was so great. And Sari and Evan tore up the stage. (Especially Sari. Evan was a little more mellow, though still very good.) All who didn't make it really missed something. The rest of the conference, I dunno, it wasn't as good as usual. I think too many were busy socializing and not actually showing up for the sessions. But it just wasn't quite as good. But it was worth it just to be at the concert. It was beautiful. And that same day, dude, I actually got to meet Seth Bernard! That was so wicked cool!
Starlie D. I think Bush is totally a big jerk. That's easy to say. And he isn't to intelligent either, is he? It makes you wonder what dictionary he owns. And what's not good is that we feel we must stand behind our 'president' during these times. During this time of war. Hasn't it yet clicked that we have had military action in many places for years now? Oh yes. We've been at a time of war non stop since before I was born. But the Republicans didn't stand behind Clinton. They were too busy of accusing him of something from his private life. And now, if we don't stand behind this man so many call 'the President of the United State of America' we are called unpatriotic and looked down on. Now isn't that interesting? We don't kiss Bush's feet and cheer on war, then we are stupid unpatriotic idiots.
Story---
Chapter One (June '02)
I have not yet titled this but I've been working on it since January. I started to rewrite it in May but It's coming along nicely, or so I think. It's inspired by Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, as you can probably see if you look. This is only the first chapter. The next chapter will be in the next issue and so on. =)
I have two characters named after people I actually know. Well, sort of. The Lady Amicitia, who you will meet in the third chapter, is named after my best friend. Gaia's last name, Brown, is after another friend of mine. (Sari Brown)
I am still stuck on some things. I haven't figured out titles of some things and whatever. So that's what * and ** and so on means. And if two or more ??s are together, that's the same thing. I'll request that you not send me ideas for titles, just to keep the copyright stuff good. =)
Okay well, enjoy the book and please remember, it's copyrighted so DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM IT WITHOUT PERMISSION. Well then, enjoy!
P.S. It's set up strangely because this is about how it would be set up in a book. And this is how I wrote it.
P.P.S. Try listening to Mediaeval Baebes while reading this. Their music goes perfectly with this, (Especially 'The Rose') and I listen to mainly only their stuff when I'm writing the book. =)
