'ALL HANDS ON DECK'

Update 6/13/08

'All Hands on Deck!'

This week was kind of an in between week, sort of the calm before the storm so to speak. So what better to do with some time off, why not work? My son and I are building two 8'x10' decks on our apartments. We started on Wednesday and already have both decks framed, decking boards screwed down, stairs built on the one side and started on the railing. If it wasn't for the killer heat we are having we would have been almost finished by now. We have been cutting off early everyday because of it. Check back for more pictures and step by step instructions.

BeforeAfter

Building Decks has always been one of my favorite things to do. Back home in New Jersey where I grew up and during my senior year in high school I signed up for half day work release from high school and was hired by a local housing developer that was building a 24 unit housing development not far from my school. I had the opportunity to work with one of the best builders known for his craftsmanship. Together we built large decks on the back of the homes in the development.

I learned from him and molded my own style of Deck Construction over the years. Much like everything I build I take great pride in the decks I construct. Following building codes was never an after thought for us, it was just how we built things. I'm not afraid to say that very nearly every deck I see in this area was not built following these standards. Honestly, I've worked in many homes in the area and the same holds true for that as well (see update 1/8/08).

The bottom line is always price and the guy that cuts the corners usually wins the job. Our crew, the guys that work for me and I feel that we would rather lose a job then not to build it correctly. My name and my Company's image goes into all the jobs we do and the words "shotty craftsmanship" will never apply to any of our jobs.

NOW AVAILABLE ---> I illustrate with photos of this past job how a deck is constructed properly using the correct materials. Please click---->HERE
