"What's So Great About Pequea?" Indian Steps Museum in Airville

A Native American Festival is held at the Indian Step Museum each year in September.
The Museum features the Harry Allaman Nature Center with a variety of exhibits, including a number of preserved specimens. Upstairs visitors will find a gallery dedicated to the Indians of the Susquehanna ("long winding river"), as well as numerous other Indian artifacts.
The 9.6 - acre estate also contains an arboretum of more than 60 identified species of trees and a self-guided historical nature trail.
In addition to The Indian Steps Museum the area offers numerous other attractions. Some are part of the museum estate, others are a short walk from the Museum and many more are located a short drive from this historic attraction.
The Dimer-Root-Haines Memorial Park is located directly across the road from the museum and includes a self-guided trail. Exhibits here include charcoal mounds, an Umbrella Magnolia and evidence of glacier movement. There is also a trail to a waterfall.
Nearby: Stewartstown Railroad, Robert Fulton Birthplace, Agricultural & Industrial Museum, York County Historical Society, York County Fire Museum, York Furnace Boat Launch is located just down Indian Steps Road.
Across the Susquehanna River from the Indian Steps Museum you can find Shenk's Ferry a nationally recognized wildflower preserve, Tuquan Glen a fabulous nature trail and hiking area, the Holtwood Pinnacle Observation area.
