"What's So Great About Pequea?"

  Holtwood
The town of Holtwood and the Holtwood Hydroelectric Station are
located just north of Pequea, on the Lower Susquehanna River.

The hydroelectric power station there was built in 1911 and has been
continuously owned and operated by Pennsylvania Power and Light, LLC
(PP&L).

The power station includes a 2,000 foot, long 55-foot high dam and the
nation's largest fish lifts. These lifts enable migrating American shad to
continue their spring journey up the Susquehanna River to spawn.
PP&L's Land Management Division provides soil, water and wildlife
habitat preservation overseeing more than 5,000 acres of land surrounding
the lake along both shores of the Susquehanna River in Lancaster and York
counties.
