NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT – BILL SZYMKOWIAK
- What a great time everyone had at the Lottery Night/Bingo
on March 16. Even the President came up from his home in Port Orange, FL. Without the help of tens of people, we could never pull off such a successful night. We realized a profit of over $1300. Thanks to everyone who contributed!
- All of the officers are nearing the end of their two-year term.
Elections take place during the month of June in even-numbered years. These two years certainly went by fast. From what I hear, most officers are planning to run for another two years. There may be some repositioning of offices. I still plan on running for one of the offices, even with my residency in Florida.
- At this time I would like to thank all the officers who worked so hard during the past two years. I was fortunate to have the assistance of all previous presidents who worked with me whenever I called for help, with Joe Rogozinski creating our website, John Bartus working on the dance committee, Lorraine Filip selling Entertainment Books and Lottery Night tickets, and Judy Waclawski, working every function as a most-active vice president. Thank you!
- One of the highlights of my last two years was the addition of over 80 new alumni members. Thanks go to Angelo Capozoli, Dolly Mogan, and Sue Booritch who worked so feverishly, especially during the initial months.
- A thank you to all the bakers and alumni who donated their time and sometimes their money for our fundraising activities.
Special thanks to Sue Booritch , Dolly Mogan, Mandy Mahouski, Vicki Weisen, Sylvia Rogozinski, Irene Manko, and Judy Waclawski who always assisted in the kitchen and food-serving line.
- Finally, thanks to all members whom I may have missed.

- A special thank you to all the sellers of the Entertainment Books. The association made a profit of $2912.00. During the summer, we will pool all sellers as to whether they want to sell the Entertainment Books or the other rival book.
- The Lottery/Bingo Night on November 3, 2001, was another financial success with a profit of over $1100.00. Another thanks to Marie Mogan and Sue Booritch for their added touch of Rigatoni and the ‘special” sauce. We were short-handed that day but with the help of Judy Waclawski, Irene Manko, Mandy Mahouski, Vicki Wiesen, and ‘guest bingo callers” Ed Manko and Drew Cetnarowski, all went well. Thank you, Theresa and Ron Cygrymus, for operating the lottery in your usual, capable manner.
- Thanks to those who baked for our Lottery Night on November 3, 2001: Eleanor Cetnarowski, Sue Booritch, Irene Manko, Mandy Mahouski, Sue Wesolowski, Cecilia Chilleo, Fran Sokol, and Eileen Zaidel. Special thanks to Mandy and Nick Mahouski for helping to clean up. Hope I didn’t forget anyone but we were short handed and I was working the door and could not keep a handle on the baked goods.
- The 2003 Dance Committee will be meeting in January to select a site for the dance. Tentative date for the dance is Saturday, November 8, 2003.
- What a Christmas Party on December 4, 2001. Once again the Karuzela Chorus was an exceptional holiday treat! We were further entertained by Santa, a.k.a. Frank Pisowicz. All board members were in attendance to assist in the various functions. Sue Booritch and Dolly Mogan made and served the halushki and ably worked the kitchen. The Karuzela Chorus also sold tapes of their various programs. Thanks to all the members who donated prizes, food, money, and cakes for this Christmas party.
- Thanks to these fine folks who baked for our Christmas Party: Vickie Weisen, Lorraine Greb, Theresa Bargas, Irene Manko, Ruth Zulka, Loretta Priore, Betty Hock, Sue Booritch, Dolly Mogan, Fran Hucko, Pat Mehelic, Irene Wojciechowicz, Mary Borowski, Nicole Weissert, Gerri Stack, and Stephanie DeBecco.
- Alberta Putas and Gerri Mikrut gave a cash contribution. Ed and Mary Szymkowiak donated liquor and Loretta Priore donated a Christmas wreath. The officers also donated liquor for the Basket of Cheer.
- Don’t forget, this is an election year for officers of the association. Elections will be held in June of 2002.
- Four new members have joined the Saint Adalbert’s Alumni Association since our last report in November. They are Theresa Jaczesko (Kwolek), Rose Marie Szafranski, Gilbert Sniegocki, and Marie Sniegocki.

- Two items of immediate concern: The first item is the sale of Entertainment Books. The company that sold the books splintered into two rival groups over the summer. One group is selling a similar book for $25, while the original Entertainment Books sell for $28. This competition is affecting our sales. Please, consider buying the Entertainment Book by calling Theresa Cygrymus at 412-381-0346, Lorraine Filip at 412-481-1686, or Irene Manko at 412-481-3598. The books will also be available at Lottery Night on Saturday, November 3.
The second item is baked goods. Desserts are needed for both Lottery/Bingo Night on November 3 and for the Christmas Party on December 5. Call Judy Waclawski at 412-488-8588 if you plan on baking for either of these events. We keep the costs down for each event due to the generosity of your baked contribution.
- See the Trips page for the Presidents’ Day trip to Casino Niagara on February 17-18, 2002.
- A second Lottery/Bingo Night is planned for Saturday, February 16, 2002, at 5:20 P.M. at the Prince of Peace Parish Center, preceded by a brief membership meeting at 5 P.M. Proceeds from this Lottery/Bingo Night will be used for the Reunion Dance.
- The 2003 Reunion Dance Committee held their first meeting on October 3. TENTATIVE date for this dance is Saturday, November 8, 2003. More details to follow.
- Remember, the Lottery/Bingo Night and the Christmas Party will both be held at the Prince of Peace Parish Center on 13th Street.
- The amendments to the by-laws have been put on hold temporarily. One of the problems we are having is that previous changes cannot be found in the minutes of meetings that updated the by-laws. An election change in the by-laws will also have be to be put on hold.
