Self-assessment is the ability to assess your abilities and skills
accurately. It is the ability to use metacognitive skills to think about
your thinking. Self-assessment results in critical but healthy reflection
and evaluation of your abilities and skills which may result in making
specific changes in how we learn. This workshop will engage teachers in the
use of a variety of tools for self-assessment of their own teaching and
train teachers on how to use appropriate tools to engage their learners in
appropriate self-assessment. |

For
over twenty-fife years, a communicative approach has been the objective of
many ESOL classes throughout the world. The approach has been motivating to
students and teachers alike. It has allowed students to take more
responsibility for their learning, and it has forced them to do more
critical thinking. However, transcripts of conversation classes using a
communicative approach, particularly those in the EFL classroom, reveal that
often neither fluency nor accuracy is attained. This presenter would like to
explore language-based methods that can be incorporated in a communicative
classroom that will foster greater accuracy and fluency without sacrificing
real communication and motivation. |
