May 8 Mia bought a funny t-shirt yesterday. It says:
Spiralia
It's funny, the Chinese's grasp of english is slightly awkward. This sign in the hotel room says: "To protect your own safety please do not smoke in the bed." They don't use punctuation, either. There's a high school right outside the hotel and when we look out the window we get a view of their basketball courts and track. The students start arriving at about 6:30 every morning and begin bouncing their basketballs, which reverberate off of all the walls and makes so much noise! Of course, our windows are wide open. The air conditioners in the hotel are turned off so as to inhibit the spread of SARS through the exchange of recycled air. It's been really warm here. It usually gets up to 26 degrees celsiuis and it's REALLY HUMID. They don't use Daylight Savings Time either, so the sun rises and sets really early.

Tom told me and Félix today that we're going to die of Hepatitis. Last night, after checking our e-mail at Tongji University, Félix and I were hungry, so we went around the block to get some noodles, made by a woman on the side of the street. Apparently this was a bad idea because street food is dirty. Hepatitis, SARS, what's next? The Chinese government announced today that anyone coming into the province must be quarantined for 10 days. Looks like we got here just in time! But that also means that we probably won't be going to Shaoxing.
