May 6 We had an adventure leaving the airport! We were not allowed off of the plane until each and every passenger and crew had had their temperature taken. Imagine, if one person was found to have a fever, we would all have been detained! So after we had been sitting on this plane for 12 hours, we had to sit there for another hour, waiting for everyone to get their temperature taken ONE BY ONE. And there must have been over 200 people... They checked our temperatures again at customs and again when we checked into the hotel (those little mercury numbers, we had to stick them under our armpits. How sanitary is THAT?) Oh yeah, and the drivers here are nuts. It's almost as if there are no rules for the road. They almost seem to honk their horns arbitrarily. But you get used to it pretty quickly. It's just their way of announcing their presence. It's not meant to be aggressive. The bus drivers do it too.
So we met up with the others and went for dinner. Afterward, some of us took a little trip and explored Nanjing Road, one of the upper-class commercial streets. It's 5 to midnight, and I'm exhausted! I've been awake for over 32 hours. It was also day-time for 27 straight hours today. Oh, the fun of travelling by air!
