Chapter 6

My alarm clock went off loudly in my ear. The clock said 5:30. I groaned. I really didn't want to get up. It was Monday morning; my favorite day of the week...NOT!!! I didn't want to go to school. Not in the least. I wanted to stay at home and be a mother. Crap! I never finished my conversation with Taylor about a new babysitter. I supposed I would just call the babysitter and tell her that she was no longer needed. I hated to call Diana anf ask her to watch Joey, because she had kids of her own, but I really had no other choice.

I decided to wait until 7:00 to call her. I didn't want to wake her. I figured she'd be up by seven. I heard Taylor getting out of the shower, so I went to get Joey ready. I hoped Diana wouldn't mind watching him. After I dressed Joey, I went to get myself ready.

I took a quick shower and then put on a pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, and some tennis shoes. I dryed my hair, and left it down. Then I added some lipgloss and a dab of mascara. VOLIA! Ready to go. Taylor had already left for work by the time I was ready to leave for school. He had been homeschooled by his mother unitl he had graduated last year. Now he worked in a posh restaurant downtown called "Dante's." He worked from 8:30am to 6:30pm. During the week, he took college classes at night, so he and I really didn't get alot of time alone at night. My schedule was just the opposite of his. I went to school everyday until 3:45. I was a highschool senior. After school, I worked at Wal-Mart until 6:30. It was a short shift, but I didn't have much time to work. Then I would pick Joey up from the (ex)babysitter's house. After that, we would go home and I'd cook dinner. Taylor would get home about 7:15. We'd eat, then he would head off to his classes. It wasn't exactly a dream life, but it wasn't awful.

I picked Joey up out of his crib, and got ready to leave. I stopped in the kitchen to call Diana. I hoped she was awake.

Diana said she would be happy to have him and I told her we'd be over in about 10 minutes.

After we hung up, I put Joey and myself into my Honda and headed across town to the Hanson's house. Diana met me at the door in a robe; her long blond hair in rollers. I explained the whole babysitter situation and she said she understood completely. I thanked her again and told her I'd be there about 6:45 to pick him up.
