Chapter Three

Taylor

Finally! I though as my family pulled into the driveway. I'm home!

"I can't believe the tour is finally over." my mother, Diana exclaimed with a sigh. "Thank God."

The whole family piled out of the van. I looked across the street to see that my best friend Kyle was home. Maybe I should go over and tell him I'm home. "Hey, mom?"

She looked over at me with tired eyes. "Yeah, Tay?"

"I'm going over to Kyle's for a while, is that okay?" I asked.

She thought a minute. "Help us get the bags and stuff in first. Then you may go."

After I finished helping my family with the lugage, I headed across the street and rang the door bell.

Kyle's father opened the door. "Hey Taylor. When'd you get back?" Mr. Jackson asked as he led me inside.

"About an hour ago." I told him. "Is Kyle here?"

He nodded. "Yeah, he's in his room. You can go on up if you like."

I thanked him and headed up the stairs to my best friend's room and knocked on the door. I heard a muffled "Come in," from behind the door, then silently opened it.

"Whoa! Hey Tay. When'd you get back?" Kyle smiled and got off his bed.

"Just an hour ago," I told him. "You looked surprised to see me. Who did you think it was?"

"Katelyn, actually." he said with a sigh.

I frowned in confussion. "Your sister? Katelyn?"

Kyle nodded. "Yeah. She came back yesterday."

I felt my cheeks grow hot. I hadn't seen her in three years. She had been tweleve the last time I had seen her. Shy, quiet, sweet...cute. "How is she?"

"She's....changed."

I looked over at my best friend. "How do you mean?"

Kyle thought a minute. "She's not who she used to be. If you stick around, she might come home."

"Might?" I asked. Were we talking about the same girl?

He nodded. "Yeah. Might. Like I said. She totally changed."

I thought he meant changed as in "grown up." But nothing could have prepared me for what he really meant.
