THE SIGN BLADES OF LUCAS COUNTY

OLD VERSION

NEW VERSION

Providence Township, located south of Oak Openings Metropark, is still using the old version of sign blade.  This is at OH-295 and Archbold-Whitehouse Road.

Richfield Township, located near the Fulton County line,  is using the new version of sign blade.  This is at OH-295 and Bancroft Road.

Spencer Township, located west of Toledo Express Airport, is still using the old version of sign blade.  This is at OH-295 and Frankfort Road.

Springfield Township, located just west of Toledo,  is using the new version of sign blade.  This is on Dorr Street, near I-475/US-23.

Swanton, like Holland, is using blue sign blades with white lettering.  This is actually located in Fulton County because Swanton strattles the county line.

Normally, I wouldn't like this setup of sign blades, but at least Swanton has them at an angle from the utility pole so all directions can see them.  Hallett Avenue is the county line.  The road as also known as Fulton Co. Rd. 1 or Fulton-Lucas Road.

Typical city of Sylvania signage.  Located near the intersection of Monroe Street and Erie Street (Sylvania-Metamora Road).

Special street signage for the center of Sylvania, located at Monroe Street and Main Street (Holland-Sylvania Road, former US-223).

How about a blast from the past?  This is from c. 1937 at the corner of Warsaw Street and East Park Street in the Polish Village section of north Toledo.

This is from Point Place, in the north end of Toledo, at the corner of 290th Street and Lehman Avenue, circa 1955.

This is how Toledo signed their street intersections c. 1955.  At the corner of Stickney Avenue and Berwin Street, south of present-day Interstate 75.

Another historical picture of intersection signage in Toledo, circa 1965.  This is at the corner of Galena and Chase Streets in North Toledo.

The city of Toledo uses two types of street signage.  On major street intersections, most often where a traffic signal exists, the streets are signed with larger sign blades.  This is at the corner of Suder and Ottawa River Roads, just off the NB I-75 exit 209 ramp.

Secondary streets in Toledo are signed with normal-sized sign blades.  These two pictures show one of the highest, if not the highest numbered street in the United States, 326th Street in the Point Place section of Toledo.

Washington Township, located just north of Toledo, near the Ohio/Michigan line, is using the new version of sign blade.  This is on Stickney Avenue, near the Alexis Road (OH-184) overpass.

This is older signage in the village of Waterville.  This is located just west of the intersection of OH-64 and US-24.

This is fairly new signage in Whitehouse, but made to look older.  This is located in the center of town, where OH-64 makes a turn from north-south to east-west.
