Where I've Been
I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I've always
loved children and decided to be a teacher when in High School. I
graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College and married my high school prom
date. We have four teenage daughters who keep us very busy.
My Life as an Educator
I taught second grade for six years upon graduating from College.
I attended very strict parochial schools as a child where we
were yelled at throughout the day. When I became a teacher I vowed
never to terrorize my students this way. And I never have. I
believe in self-fulfilling prophecy. I tell the kids that they
are the best, and then they are. I stayed home for a dozen years
to raise my daughters and started subbing when the youngest went to first
grade. I have subbed for 8 years in three different districts,
and have earned the title "The Cool Sub," in all the schools I've been
in. Not because I play 7-up all day, I never play 7-up unless it's
in the lesson plans, but because we do all the work assigned in an atmosphere
of mutual respect with a sense of humor. I also could not believe
that consistently for 8 years, all schools, all grades, all districts,
the five Internet ready computers sat unused with lovely dustcovers of
bunnies and bears. The only time I saw them used were for Kid-Pix,
word processing, or kill and drill to keep the high or low students busy.
That is when I decided to learn about computers and perhaps get
my Master's in Educational Technology.
I also teach workshops to teachers for local university in
partnership with a Professor.
When I'm Not Working...
I love Art and someday would like to get a degree in Art.
Monet is my favorite, my house is loaded with waterlilies. I
also love Disney. And my family takes nearly yearly pilgrimages
there ever since our first child was one year old. I also take
grad classes and draw in my spare time. I love to watch "family
movies" with my kids and husband. Every weekend we watch classics
and new favorites, sometimes 3 in one night.
Web Sites I Like:
http://www.Egypt7000.com
Here you can buy papyrus scrolls hand painted in Egypt. Also
glass bottles and all cartouches you can imagine(your name in Egyptian
hieroglyphics.) Another great site is TourEgypt.net. Here
are tours of the country, and you can send Egyptian postcards to your
friends.
There is also a hieroglph converter, where you type in letters
in English, and they come out in hieroglphics.
http://www.senate.gov/vtour/
will take you on a virtual tour of the US Capitol building.
http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/frog/home.html
will allow you to virtually dissect a frog, with videos and
help. Bookadventure.com will allow your students to sign up for
free prizes upon completing a short quiz proving that they have read
a certain book.
