After giving it much thought about my racing career I decided to hand the driving position over to a new driver. My job of driving truck was keeping me away from home to often that I wouldn't have any time to continue working on the car and driving it. So now the search is on for a new driver while I can spend my time as a car owner and concentrate on my job.

We finally found a driver for the #58 Monte Carlo! Red Lego will assume driving responsibilities. His race car wasn't legal to run at Lorain County Speedway so he took over our ride instead.

Bad news. While getting the car ready the oil was drained and water was found. Upon further investigation we found out the block was cracked. Looks like plans are going to be put on hold while we see what can be done.

We've got it, the old cracked motor is coming out and Red is replacing it with his motor and transmission. Work is continuing on body work and relocating the seat up a little further. Along with that is a new paint scheme and unfortunately a new number. With my plans of sitting out the 2003 season I failed to reserve the number 58 and since the season is at half way, the number had already been taken.

The first practice day! The car was turning some good numbers around the 3/8 mile oval. Consistent high to middle 18 seconds laps, but the car was loose going into the turns. We’ll make adjustments and come back next week.
I have also taken on a new truck driving job so now I am able to help out as much as possible, but I have no plans on returning to driving the car.

This week at practice the car was just the opposite, It was pushing hard coming into the corners and lap times were higher then the week before. It seems like were going backwards in our progress rather then forwards. We are having the car scaled this coming week and we’ll see what adjustments can be made.

What a difference a set of scales make! Changing front end geometry, adding weight and changing the two rear springs really got the car hooked up. Lap times were consistently in the low 18 second range and high 17 seconds. The fastest lap time recorded today was a 17.63. That time is good enough to be up there with the front runners for sure. Now instead of scratching our heads between races, we can actually relax knowing that the car is hooked up.
