Paces to go, things to see

I really hope that you weren't coming to this page to find out about Casablanca or Gone with the Wind. If so, you will be gravely disappointed. My tastes in movies, as in most of my life, are rather off center, warped if you will. In my ever so humble opinion, some of the best directors are John Waters, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock. A strange mix, perhaps, but they are each masters in their own rights. First, to explore John Waters. He is a master at delving into the darkest side of your mind, of life. To transform the lives of his very odd characters into a semi-believeable (and thoroughly amusing) story about their exploits is his forte. Favorites of mine are Pink Flamingos (one of my greatest joys was seeing this film at the Stockholm Film Festival in 1997 on the big screen), Desperate Living and Mondo Trasho. Simply put, if you have never experienced a John Waters film, you must...but be forwarned, you won't be ready for what you see. |

David Lynch is a pure artist in my eyes. Creating such wonderful movies as Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Lost Highway, he shows the disturbing side of life in a vastly different, yet extremely artistic way. His movies haunt your soul, and defy explanation. Let us not forget Twin Peaks, his wildly succesful TV series, which caputured American audiences for quite some time. Alas, it became too strange for most Americans (errrr, what isn't too strange for Americans and their "lowest common denominator" attituide) and was taken from the air. |

I'm rather confident that virtually everyone reading this page has seen at least one movie by Alfred Hitchcock. So many are so wonderful, I won't bother to list titles here...but he, too, uses wonderful imagery and the power of your brain to create his films and disturb your mind. |
