Psalm 139 is the great Pro-Life Scripture. How many times have these wonderful words of life in the womb come to mind? How many times have they been used to defend the life of the unborn and comfort the hurting? What comfort there is in knowing that our God lovingly created us! We are indeed "fearfully and wonderfully made!"
I can't tell you how many times I have read and studied this Psalm. . I am so very familiar with this passage of Scripture, that I wrote a song based on it many years ago entitled "In Your Image"., The message was so clear that the CPC in Marion, Ohio used it as its theme song for their radio ads. I could not imagine finding anything new in this passage - that is until today!
Read Psalm 139. Pay special attention to verses 19 - 24.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
"Your eyes saw my unformed body."
"How precious to me are your thoughts."
"Oh God! How vast is the sum of them!"

"If only you would slay the wicked."

WHAT! Slay the wicked! Where did that come from? Here in the midst of the most famous, Biblical, Pro-Life passage is a prayer to slay the wicked! This isn't Psalm 35 or 37 or 83.

"Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!"

Who slipped that into Psalm 139?
These men are bloodthirsty. They rise up against God. They misuse God's name. They have evil intent. Stop me here, but doesn't this describe the abortion industry? Right here at the end of the preeminent Pro-Life passage is a description of the abortion industry! The description of the heart of those who would murder what has been "fearfully and wonderfully" created by God!

If the unborn could speak would they say anything less than,

"If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!"

What will we do to keep the bloodthirsty men away from God's most innocent? What will we do to keep those with evil intent away from the exploited women, men, and children? May the Spirit of God show us the Truth of His word. May we pray,

"I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

David, the author of Psalm 139, was a man after God's own heart. May we become like-minded people. Grant us the same spirit. For You, Oh Lord, are the same yesterday, today and forever!
