The meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of s silence for deceased members. Michael asked all members to identify themselves and all present gave their names and how long they had been retired. Michael stated that we are a very strong organization and we are looked on very favorably by the community.
Gladys read the minutes and they were accepted and seconded. Marie advised that we have a total of x amount in a combination of our savings, checking and certificate accounts. Joan advised that we now have a 384 membership.
Joan also informed us that she had been a member of the Middle Country Educational Foundation. When Joan was a member they made various contributions to the community. Our Middle Country Retirees’ Association has made donations to this organization in the past to help them in these ventures. However, Joan has since learned that this Foundation has changed their makeup and she believes that we should be aware of the changes before we donate any additional money to them. Kathy Granata volunteered to look into this matter and advise Joan as to the changes, We do, as an organization, contribute to many worthy causes such as the L.I. Veterans Home, Jefferson Ferry and scholarships to students in both high schools, and we just want to be assured that the money we donate is going for worthy causes.
Josephine spoke about our June Luncheon at Baccones. Some negative comments were made regarding the seating and acoustics at Boccones Josephine advised that we need to make arrangements for our holiday party as soon as possible because time is running short. She asked for a show of hands to see how many would prefer Jefferson Ferry for the holiday luncheon and 10 members replied yes. A discussion followed and she asked those present if anyone knew of a place they could recommend that would offer enough space where we could move from table to table and who would have an efficient sound system. She will be checking into various places and will advise the members at our meeting in October.
Respectfully submitted,
A motion to end the meeting was made and seconded.
