2012 MIDDLE COUNTRY RETIREES' ASSOCIATION 2013

MCRA-MINUTES-MCRA

ABRIDGED

Regular Meeting –April 25,2013

The meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.

Anne Bedard asked if there were any new members in attendance and Cynthia Lorena raised her hand.

Joan O’Grady advised that our membership is now 390.

MEETINGS: Anne Bedard suggested that we have 4 meetings a year along with our June and Holiday luncheons. It was suggested that we change the meeting day to Tuesday. Joan O’Grady advised that she wasn’t sure the room would be available but she would check it out. It was also decided that we use the smaller room since it would better suit out needs. It was also suggested that we start the meeting at 12:00 noon and all agreed.

RESENTATIONS: It was decided to leave the presentations as is. Joan O’Grady mentioned that the members really enjoy the information they receive from guest speakers regarding Social Security, health issues, V.A. hospital, etc. Joan advised that we might give a stipend if we thought the presentation would be of interest to the retirees like the one given on property taxes. However, since Joan takes care of the newsletter and the mailings she would appreciate some volunteers to work on a speaker committee.

Victor Visconti heard there might be a possibility that employees would be asked to select a new empire plan or HIP plan, but that present retirees would not be affected. Joan asked Victor if he would be willing to contact Jim Donovan for more information, but Victor suggested that we wait until September when the new school year begins.

OTHER ITEMS: Michael discussed the $100.00 scholarships we give to both high schools and how much they are appreciated. Joan O’Grady mentioned a possible bus trip to New York which would cost $20.00 per person. The Association would add the balance of what would be owed on a $1000.00 trip. Once in New York you could do anything you wanted to do such as theatre, shopping, museums, etc. We would need to fill up the bus in order to make it possible. Peggy Loucks is going to take care of the details. The Association gave the V.A. hospital in Stony Brook a check for $1000.00 and they informed us they will put the money to good use in their aviary. Joan O’Grady advised that the mailings and e-mails are very successful. She receives many notes from all over the country telling her how much they appreciate all the news from home. Michael thanked everyone for coming and closed the meeting

A motion to end the meeting was made and seconded.

Respectfully submitted,

Gladys Gregnoli-Meier
