The meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.
Marie Lewis read the Treasurer’s report and a motion to accept the report was made, seconded and approved. Joan asked for opinions as to what we thought we should do with money left over after all bills have been paid. She commented that we get very little interest keeping the money in a checking account and perhaps we should consider investing in some other way.
Michael called on Joan O’Grady to give some details concerning the newsletter that she sends out approximately four times a year. Joan began by saying that she always asks the retirees to let her know of anything they would like included in the newsletter. All the retirees look forward to receiving the newsletter which contains those comments about their friends and colleagues.
Joan also informed us that Gloria Travis had suffered a stroke and was in Rehab and is now living with her daughter. Joan asked us to let her know if anyone knew of any retiree who was ill or who had passed away. Debbie Handel advised that Linda Brown’s husband had passed away in July. Joan informed us that Shirley Willig sends a beautiful card on behalf of the Retirees’ Association.
Anne Bedard asked any new members present to please stand up and introduce themselves. Dottie Nelson, Josephine Serra and Diane Giardelli announced that they were new members to our Association.
Michael advised that there will not be any meetings in January or February 2012. He also reminded us that if there is inclement weather in March we should go to the website, call the center or call one of the officers to see if there is going to be a meeting.
Our holiday luncheon will be held on December 6th at the Watermill Inn and all are invited to come. Joan suggested that you call any friends you think might be interested. The cost is $35.00 and that is the amount Watermill charges us. We will have a Chinese Auction and a 50/50 raffle which helps to offset any expenses that occur. Anne Bedard once again advised that she is in need of baskets for the Chinese Auction. A conversation took place about possibly changing the dessert and it was decided to keep the Peach Melba and perhaps put a tray of cannolis on each table. It was also suggested that we have music at the luncheon and Joan is contacting Watermill Inn to see if this is possible.
A motion to end the meeting was made and seconded. Respectfully submitted,
