2011 MIDDLE COUNTRY RETIREES' ASSOCIATION 2012

MCRA-MINUTES-MCRA

ABRIDGED

Regular Meeting – September 24, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members. The May 26, 2009 minutes were read and a motion to accept the minutes was made, seconded and approved.

Michael welcomed everyone to our meeting and thanked them for attending our meeting. Anne Bedard asked if there were any new retirees attending our meeting and Joanna Marshall and Roberta Gerrish were acknowledged and welcomed.

Joan O’Grady advised us that the holiday luncheon will be held on December 2nd in a smaller, cozier room at the Watermill from 12:15 – 4:15 and the cost will be $34.00 per person. Victor Visconti made a suggestion that we include wine and beer at the luncheon as he felt it would entice more retirees to attend. Victor asked that we take a show of hands to see how many would approve of wine and beer being included. Joan O’Grady felt we should table the suggestion until we find out whether or not we would be liable for anyone who might drink too much and become involved in an accident. However, Michael asked for a show of hands and the majority approved Victor’s suggestion of including wine and beer at the luncheon.

Anne Bedard advised us that she needs medium and large baskets for the Chinese auction that we have at our luncheon. She also informed us that we could begin to bring in articles for the auction. The auction and the 50/50 do much to help offset the cost of the luncheon.

Joan O’Grady advised those present that we had to guarantee 45 people for the Belmont Race Track trip. Unfortunately we did not reach that number so we had to pay $700.00 to make up the difference.

Michael announced that Milt Silverstein, who was a dear friend to all of us, had passed away. It was suggested that we drop a note to Milt’s daughter Lisa.

Rose Tysz read the financial report and it was accepted, seconded and approved.

Joan advised those present that fourteen members took the New England/Canadian cruise on the Princess line. We were all on the same deck and we tried to meet each other at various times during the cruise. Many of us went on land tours in the various ports. The food was fabulous and the price was right, and everyone had a wonderful time.

Michael advised that we are in need of an alternate secretary. He also informed us that we will now meet on Thursdays. The next two meetings will be held on October 22nd and November 19th.

Michael introduced Joe Bertaglia from Amac (Association of Mature American Citizens) which is an organization that provides up to date information on various concerns and interests for the over 50 population. Joe went over the A,B,C, & D’s of Medicare which was both interesting and informative. He handed out a flyer and informed us that we could call them if we had any concerns.

A motion to end the meeting was made, seconded and approved.

Respectfully submitted, Gladys Gregnoli Meier
