2008 MIDDLE COUNTRY RETIREES' ASSOCIATION 2009

MCRA-MINUTES-MCRA

ABRIDGED

Regular Meeting – May 27, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.

Anne Bedard read the minutes and Joan O’Grady gave an update on membership and the News From Home letter. She also informed us that an introductory letter goes home to all retirees informing them who we are and what we are all about. This includes all retirees and anyone who ever worked for the district. Joan also gave some information regarding a dental insurance being offered by the RPEA. Rose gave the financial report as of May 2008 and Michael updated information regarding the shingles vaccine.

Michael spoke about the many contributions made by our Association. We buy a golf hole at the annual golf outing. We present a $1000.00 scholarship each year to a student at Newfield High School and Centereach High School. We also adopt a family for Christmas and for 2007 we selected a former Middle Country student who is married with two children and who had come upon hard times. Our Association will issue her a check four times a year in the amount of $150.00.

Anne spoke briefly regarding the luncheon club who meet once a month and invited us all to join. Also, regarding our June 12th luncheon at the Watermill, we are in need of volunteers to bring in an item worth $5.00 - $10.00 to fit into middle size and large size baskets for our auction. As of this date we have 40 people attending but, Ruth Greenberg believes that number will grow as many wait until the last moment to respond.

Michael now introduced our guest speaker, Kim Smith,Esq. from the firm of Burner, Cherches & Smith who would be giving us an overview concerning estate planning, revocable and irrevocable trusts, living trusts, and ways to avoid probate. She began by saying that we should update our will every five to ten years or sooner especially if you have a change of life ie. divorce, death in the family, grown children, etc. She gave us many details concerning health care proxy, living will, beneficiaries and power of attorney. There was a brief question and answer period following her overview. Michael thanked her for a very interesting and informative presentation.

A motion to end the meeting was made and seconded. Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted, Gladys Gregnoli/Meier Minutes of April 22, 2008
