
Respectfully submitted. Joan O'GradyThe meeting was called to order at 1:05 PM by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.
Minutes from the previous meeting were not available. Anne Bedard read a letter written by the president; sent to Ms. Liz Jeffrey thanking her for her presentation at our March meeting and for all the information she provided us. The president also invited her to our annual luncheon at the Watermill Inn, this year on June 12, 2008 as the guest of MCRA. Michael also spoke of the letter he sent to UnitedHealth Care regarding the Shingles vaccine (Zostavax). UnitedHealth Care referred him to Medicare and when he contacted Medicare they referred him to UnitedHealth Care. Copies of both letters will be sent to Liz Jeffrey for consultation on the next step to be taken in the matter.
Rose Tysz gave a financial report. A motion was made and seconded to adopt the report. The financial report was approved by the members present.
Tony Biata notified us of the recent passing of Ingrid Wallock and Carolyn Levine Kaitz told us about the death of Consuelo Kempster.
Michael asked for any volunteers who could help by serving as members of the various community boards in which we are asked to participate periodically. Anne Bedard indicated that the final meeting of our monthly luncheon group will be May 6 at Ruby Tuesday. Our annual luncheon will be held at Watermill Inn on June 12, 2008 12:00 – 5:00 PM and notices will go out soon.
Joan O’Grady spoke to attending members of the Retired Public Employees Association a pro-active group fighting for retired public employee rights. Membership in the group allows our members to get dental insurance for a moderate price. Joan presented applications and information on the opportunity for the dental insurance. Joan also mentioned about the 2-fer theater tickets available to members. Rose Biscardi brought in an article from Newsday of April 21, 2008 asking for us to write or call our Senators Clinton and Schumer to ask them to work for lower gas prices.
Rose Biscardi made a motion to raise the MCRA scholarship award to $1000 for one Centereach student and one Newfield student. It was seconded by Tony Biata. Motion passed. Michael asked for any nominations for election to the Executive Board of MCRA at the June Luncheon. Co-secretary position is currently open and a volunteer needed at the present time.
Motion made to close the meeting, seconded and accepted by those present at the meeting.
Rose Biscardi, a certified trainer in Arthritis Exercise, gave a wonderful demonstration for our members for more than 30 minutes. Thank you Rose.
