There were no minutes read for January and February, 2008, since the MCRA held no meetings in January and February, 2008. Joan O’Grady read the e-mails sent to the MCRA regarding memorials.
Rose Tysz gave a financial report. A motion was made and seconded to adopt the report. The financial report was adopted by the members present.
Michael asked for volunteers to handle the coffee and cake each month. Michael read the new calendar for the year and asked if there were any problems with it. Joan spoke about the Ocean City, Maryland trip on May 12-16, 2008.
Michelle Posillico (a former MCCSD student) and the Rose Caracappa Senior Citizen’s Center manager spoke to membership about the new center and all the services available to Senior Citizens of Brookhaven.
Michael spoke about the scholarships ($750.00) we will be giving out in June to students from Centereach and Newfield H.S. Rose Biscardi suggested that MCRA consider raising its scholarships from $750 each student to $1000. Joan O’Grady also spoke to the matter. The president suggested that the matter be resolved at the April, 2008 meeting.
Michael then introduce Liz Jeffrey from MCCSD and she spoke to us about the changes that were made to our Medical Insurance providers: Caremark to Medco. If one wants Part D in Medicare one cannot say “yes” to the federal program provided by UnitedHealth Care. It is one or the other. Ms. Jeffrey also spoke abou the Medicare refund we receive each year and the $96.40 standard fee. If anyone pays more than that for Medicare, notify Ms. Jeffrey and she will re-calculate the refund due from MCCSD. The district will refund the overage due. Questions followed and Liz was very informative with those present at the meeting. Michael thanked Liz.
Joan O’Grady gave some preliminary information about dental insurance and will bring more complete information next month for pick up by members.
