A motion to adjourn the meeting was made, seconded and approved. Respectfully submitted. Gladys Gregnoli/MeierThe meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.
Janice Kellerman read the minutes which were seconded and accepted. Rose Tcyz gave the financial report as of April 2007. It was announced that two retirees Connie Goldstein and Harvey Mendelson had passed away and will be added to the Wall of Remembrance. Michael asked the members to notify him when they learn of any Middle Country employee who has passed away
Michael advised us that we now have a membership of 402 representing twenty-two states.
Joan O’Grady informed us that in this month’s RPEA publication there is an article advising that some retirees are having $105.50 deducted for Medicare instead of $93.50. Joan suggested that if you are a member of RPEA and are having $105.50 deducted for Medicare you should call 1-800-726-7732 and speak to Sylvia to advise her that you are one of those retirees who are paying the higher amount.
Joan also advised that a vaccination for shingles is now available. However, unfortunately you will only be covered for this vaccination if you belong to the Part D Medicare. Rose Biscardi advised us that she had to pay $160.00 for this vaccination because Empire would not cover it. Since Empire has consistently sent out notices that we would be better served if we stayed with Empire, we are at a loss to understand why this vaccination is not covered. If you would like further information concerning this matter, please refer to the June newsletter.
Peggy Loucks advised that we still have five tickets available that do not require transportation for the trip to Belmont Park Racetrack. If you know of anyone who could avail themselves of this offer, please advise them to contact Joan O’Grady or Peggy Loucks.
It was announced that as of this date we have a total of sixty people attending the June luncheon. Anne informed us that we are in need of items for the raffle and large baskets to help with the presentation.
We discussed several possibilities for our next year’s meetings. One suggestion was that we hold a meeting at the Longwood Estate where we could have lunch and have a tour of the grounds and the house. It was also suggested that we invite Melinda back to give us another round of exercise. Another idea was that we try to get someone to talk about an area of public service by contacting the N.Y. State Partnership. Next year there will be six meetings to be held in March, April, May, September, October and November. Our next meeting will be held on June 5th.
Ann Bedard asked that members remember to bring in items to our next meeting for the raffle to be held at our June luncheon. The next informal luncheon meeting will be held at Uncle Joe’s restaurant. Carol Kirschner requested that we travel a little further for the luncheon meetings in the future.
Joan O’Grady introduced Peggy Loucks as a new member in attendance. Peggy will be assisting Joan with the Belmont trip planned for September. Joan reminded members that we will be including advertising on our News from Home page sent out to members, the cost will be $15 for the Xeroxing of business cards on the back of the News from Home.
