2006 MIDDLE COUNTRY RETIREES' ASSOCIATION 2007

MCRA-MINUTES-MCRA

ABRIDGED

Regular Meeting – September 19, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members. The minutes of the May meeting were read and a motion to accept the minutes was made and seconded. The minutes were adopted.

Anne Bedard asked if there were any new members in attendance. Ron Ruggiere, Joyce Boch and Ed Reynolds were introduced. Michael stated that anyone who worked for the district, or who retired from the district, is eligible to join our association.

Rose Tycz made a financial report: A motion was made to accept the financial report. Motion seconded. The financial report was adopted.

Anne McNally passed around an article that showed her son, who is in the National Guard, meeting with President Bush.

The Legislative Committee will be operative for the 2006-2007 year. It meets to try to find a way in which to relieve the tax burden of Middle Country School District. The committee is hoping to change the formula for taxing so that taxes are more evenly distributed. Many other school districts are now involved with this same project.

Michael announced that our membership now stands at 398. Members live in 21 states. He also noted that we have a new Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Roberta Gerold, and a new board member, Nick Caracappa. We have also had 9,415 visits to our website.

Michael asked if we could have some volunteers to help with the mailings. Rose Biscardi, Eileen Budney and Dorothy Auer volunteered. We also need two volunteers who will be responsible for the refreshments. Michael also talked about the need for someone to take over his responsibilities on the website should he become incapacitated. Our website is now worth over $100,000. Michael wants it to remain intact should the need present itself.

The retiree’s luncheon group meets eight times this year on the first Tuesday of the month at different restaurants. On Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, 2006 they will be meeting at Crystal Gardens in Smithtown and after lunch will make a trip to Uncle Guisseppes. If you need further information, please check the website.

Joan O’Grady announced that Theresa Merkert, Joseph Werner and Joseph Fraticelli had passed away. She also asked if anyone who is a member of our association, and is not receiving the Middle Country School District’s Bulletin Board, to please let her know and she will inform the Administration. She is also trying to see if she can get the district to include a school calendar in any mailing made.

The Middle Country Educational Foundation is having its annual golf outing for anyone who is interested. This organization helps with contributions to the planetarium and the Robotics Program.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting and was seconded. Respectfully submitted, Gladys Gregnoli
