Meeting was promptly called to order at 1:00 P.M. by President Michael Daly. Members stood for a Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.
The minutes of the March 28 meeting were read and a correction was made by Gloria Travis re luncheon meeting for May which was incorrectly stated – should be Uncle Joe's not Papa Joes.
Correspondence was read re Guest Speaker, Martin Dekom, guest speaker for March meeting. President Michael Daly thanked him for coming and expressed how informative he was re reverse mortgages.
Rose Tisz gave the treasurer's report on the total amount in all accounts. A motion was made to accept the report.
Mention made that Joan O'Grady was home recuperating from recent illness. Ruth Greenberg mentioned working on membership renewal drive and luncheon letters will be mailed.
Motion was brought up to increase Scholarship awards to $1,000 each for next school year. Motiion was seconded and the increase adopted.
President Michael Daly introduced Guest Speaker, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Leonard Adler. Dr. Adler has been a Superintendent of Schools in 4 different districts. He has dedicated his life to education. Dr. Adler will finish his term in June and stated there would be a new Superintendent by July 1. Dr. Adler stated he has been in the education field since 1954 and mastered in Art and Technology. Stressed how important human relations are in life dealing with others. Mentioned school budget vote coming up in May. Proposed budget to be 177,456.61, up 12 million from last year. Health care increased 11%.
President Daly thanked Dr. Adler for coming and for speaking so candidly to our Association.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 PM
