NEWS FROM HOME: OCTOBER, 2006

Where everyday is Friday.

Hopefully by now you have received your new Directories and your membership cards. If you have not, please contact me at 631-732-3447 and I will get it right out to you. If you received your directory, you are a member in good standing of this organization until July 1, 2007. Also, if there are any corrections, additions or deletions to be made in thE directory, we would appreciate hearing from you.

Unfortunately, we have already been notified that we made several mistakes. Two persons listed on the Wall of Remembrance are, in fact, alive and well. William Casey would like us all to know that at 80 years old he is still playing softball and enjoying his life in Florida; AND Frances Witman after being prodded by her friends to join our organization for several years, finally did join this year, and we, inadvertently, put her on the Wall of Remembrance. We do not often “kill off” new members. We deeply regret both errors and hope all is forgiven. What would be a nice thing to do is for everyone who knows Bill or Frances would be to send them a card to indicate how glad we are to hear they are still with us. Please ink or cross out those two names from the Wall of Remembrance in your directory but do not take them out of the “land of the living” portion.

Kindly note the following corrections:

1) Adele Teutonico tells us her phone number is 631-821-5378, please correct that in the book. 2) Don’t forget to change Lolly Abbate’s address to 3 Picardy Ct., Ridge, N.Y. 11961 3) Ruth Shapiro’s address is 59 not 69 as listed. 4) Please add a late registration: Ann Kessel, 12 Belair Rd., Selden, N.Y. 11784 631-732-0876 e-mail: annkes@aol.com

We are enclosing our December 5 luncheon invitation to all of you just in case you can schedule your holiday up here in New York and be with us on the 5th of December. Please return to the address indicated as soon as you can. The MCRA will be 20 years old in June of 2007 and we will be having an anniversary luncheon at the Watermill, so keep that in mind when planning any trips North or East or South.

With our vast resources of talent and experience, the Middle Country Public Library has asked us to contact our membership to see if any of you would be willing to volunteer for their wonderful Literacy Suffolk program. They need volunteer tutors and who better than retirees from the Middle Country School District. Read the enclosed flyer and take a moment to consider this if you live in the vicinity of our great library. Many of your colleagues are already doing this and feel very good about it. Needless to say, fliers will not be included for those of you living out of Suffolk County.

PLEASE REMEMBER OUR MONTHLY MEETING ON OCT. 24, 2006 AT THE MIDDLE COUNTRY PUBLIC LIBRARY IN SELDEN AT 1 PM. A reminder is enclosed with this mailing.
