I have been thrilled at the opportunity to serve AGAIN in the capacity to which I was originally elected at the June, 2012 luncheon. As the recently reelected President of the Association, 2012-2013,I once again promise membership a spectacular performance on its behalf.

It is with great joy that I welcome you to the start of a new year (2012–2013) for the Middle Country Retirees’ Association. Having just celebrated the 24th year of our existence we look forward to the future with confidence that while much has been accomplished in the last 24 years (See the “History Page” on your website at http://www.angelfire/ny5/mcra for a listing of some 20 accomplishments) but also with the expectation that much will be accomplished over the next and succeeding years by and for our membership.

In a real sense your Board of Directors is empowered by the strong membership we continue to maintain, and the support we continue to garner from some 374 members in 21 states.

It is our hope that membership will once again do the magic that it does so well and swell our ranks even above the 374 of recent days. In anticipation of your continued support, may I take this opportunity to wish you and those you love the very best, with the added hope that you find it possible to visit us here in NY when the opportunity arises.

Make it a point to attend the informal luncheon groups on the indicated dates each month as listed on the "Guess What Page" of Upcoming Events, on this site. Most fun can be had by attendance at our monthly meetings. Always make it point to reserve the fourth THURSDAY each month for the Middle Country Retirees' Association meeting. Bring a fellow member or better yet a fellow member and a potential member to our meetings which always start at 1:00 PM prompt and end within the hour: 2:00 PM( So help me, God! ).

See you there!

Michael

A BIT OF PAST HISTORY

As the president of the Middle Country Retiree's Association it has been my intention to seek a better understanding and a fuller implementation of the objectives of the association. We began the 2002-2003 year with the adoption of a newly formulated constitution for the Association at the March meeting, 2002. We continued with the introduction of our newly established Web site at the April meeting and we finished in May with the formulation of new, broad and appropriate communication mechanism for the Association. In September we launched an effort to make our Wall of Remembrance a district-wide venture. That effort continues today with the completed survey of the entire district as approved by the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools on January 15, 2003. During the 2002-2003 year MCRA found position on the district's Citizens Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC), the screening committee for the new superintendent of schools of the Middle Country Central School District and the board of directors of the Middle Country Educational Foundation.

The year 2003–2004 was an eventful year for MCRA. True to its purposes: The promotion of the interests and welfare of its members, cooperation with organizations of like mind, participation in the educational programs of the Middle Country School District, our association became a powerful force in the community. Strong in membership, possessed of a clear view of purpose, endowed with a diverse and talented membership it met the challenges set before it in the year 2003-2004 year.

The year 2004-2005, MCRA continued to see a number of important accomplishments to include the following: the expansion of the web site to 400 pages with over 5,277 visitors, the development of an effective communicaton mechanism for the Association, the crystalization of ideas and the furtherance of lists for the Wall of Remembrance, the location of a possible architect and contractor for the Wall of Remembrance, representation on the Citizen's Budget Advisory Committee and the Centereach-Selden Advisory Group, the presentation of two scholarships($750 each) one at CHS and the other at NFHS, planned field trips to the Carribbean and Hawaii, growth of membership to 406, a dramatic increase in attendance at our monthly meetings, and the presentation of a yearly service award by the Association to two contributing members. AND LAST ...

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, A RETURN TO A MEDICARE REFUND ON A SEMIANNUAL BASIS.

MCRA's RESPONSE TO CHANGE IN MEDICARE REFUND ARRANGEMENT

This past year 2005-2006 witnessed the realization of a number of possibilities for MCRA as reflected in the following accomplishments: Position on the Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC), the Centereach-Selden Advocacy Association (Coalition for Smart Growth)and the screening committee for a superintendent of schools of the Middle Country School District. Participation with the Middle Country Educational Foundation at its Rock Hill Country Club annual golf tournament. Presentation of two scholarships ($750 each); one at CHS and the other at NFHS. Presentation of service awards (3) to deserving members of the association at the June luncheon. The further the development of our Web site for its 9,000 visitors. The revision and adoption of an updated constitution for MCRA. The establishment of a financial committee to advise on the investment of MCRA funds. The creation of the office of Financial Secretary and the appointment of a second Trustee. The institution of an automatic procedure for budget reporting at monthly meetings. The marked success and continuation of MCRA’s informal luncheons. The establishment of a committee to search out an invite appropriate guest speakers to monthly meetings. The finalization of an MCRA position and plan on the establishment of a Wall of Remembrance for presentation to the district.

The Middle Country Retirees' Association was founded in July,1987. This year then, 2006-2007, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of MCRA. SOME OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE PAST 20 YEARS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
