The Gleaners

THE GLEANERS
Jean François Millet
1857

This FILTHY PICTURE was hanging on Mama's wall when I was a little girl.

I couldn't figure out why she'd want a picture
showing that guy on the right taking a pee.

I never forgot the picture.
Sometimes I'd even wonder if I'd dreamed it all up.

Then, not that many years ago, I saw the picture again and
learned that it's WOMEN gleaning a field after the harvest.

I felt so silly.
But I was just a little bitty thing.
Plus the picture was really dirty, so it was hard to see the details.
So I got an excuse. :0)

The most famous gleaner of all times is probably Ruth who labored in the fields of Boaz.
They ended up getting married and became the great-grandparents of David, King of Israel.

It is a beautiful love story in the Bible - not only between a man and a woman,
but also between an "ex" daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law, Naomi.

I love that part of the story, because I love my own "ex" DIL's, Pat and Mirsa, so much.

They have the same qualities that Ruth had:

Loving
Loyal
Hard Working
