Unlike biometric
systems Checker does not require real time access to
networks, predefined access points or any special
sensors. Biometric technologies are typically more
appropriate for institutions with large budgets, fixed
access points, and high security needs. But for
enterprises where portability and cost are issues,
Checker provides a low cost solution.
Checker also includes
an integrated desktop ID Card system that allows
on-the-spot creation of photo IDs and download of the
data to the PDA. Checker is compatible with most other
ID systems. ID data may be imported from simple tab
delimited files. Any QuickTime supported image format
may be processed for download to the PDA.
Checker is based on
True Image technology developed to provide schools with
instant ID cards and PDA based Student Information
Systems (SIS). These systems have already been used for
several years in high and middle schools. Checker
leverages this technology to provide a low cost solution
that immediately upgrades security for government and
commercial enterprises.
Sales of the product
are slated to begin after October 1st. Pricing is based
on site licenses: An enterprise of 500 costs $1,000; an
enterprise of 1,000 is $2,000; and an enterprise of
10,000 is $5,000.
According to the
company, all of these licenses include the Mac program
to import/create the ID database and photos. That
program also creates the PDB file which downloads into a
Palm device. The Palm software is included in the site
license and can be put on any number of Palm devices for
a security force to use. The company also provides the
"conduit" which takes stored attendance data
from Palm(s) and uploads it for use by a database
program.
