The Trial (1993)

Directed by: David Hugh Jones
Starring: Kyle MacLachlan, Anthony Hopkins
Underlying (and I do mean underlying) Plot: "Joseph K. awakes one morning, to find two strange men in his room, telling him he has been arrested. Joseph is not told what he is charged with, and despite being "arrested," is allowed to remain free and go to work. But despite the strange nature of his arrest, Joseph soon learns that his trial, however odd, is very real, and tries desperately to spare himself from the court's judgement."
Summary written by Mike Meyers on Internet Movie Database

I have just seen The Trial for the second time and it is still as thought provoking and breathtaking (I hate that cliche, but it's all I can think of) as it was the first time I saw it. This is quite likely the best movie I have ever seen. I have never seen the 1963 version, but I am assuming it's similar. But I don't know, Kyle MacLachlan and Anthony Hopkins are wonderful actors, so how can you go wrong? Ahh, I only wish more people knew about this movie. The first time I saw it, I was provoked to write. I wrote three pages front and back, reviewing and assessing my life. This movie made me think that much. It's one of those movies, that when it's over, you just sit there for a second, silent, step back, then say "wow." I mean not much else can describe it. The cheap "synopsis" of the movie that is always given does not even begin to describe what the movie is about. If you like movies that make you think, then this is definitely the movie to see. This is not a David Lynch film, but if you are a fan of David Lynch films you will like this movie. It has the David Lynch spirit: a movie with no concrete plot, yet means so much. If that makes any sense. David Lynch fans know. And it stars Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Dune, Blue Velvet), the king of odd movies, in my opinion. This is more of a psychological film than a plot-oriented film. I mean you must actually have some level of intelligence to watch it. It doesn't just give anything away. It makes you think. It makes you think a lot. But, boy am I glad I finally got all this off my chest. I could go on and on forever about this movie, but I'm not going to give anything away. I'm going to go write a poem now (another insipiration, sorry). All I gotta say is: GO WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!!

If you have seen this movie, and you would like to tell me what you thought, please e-mail me, and perhaps I will post your comments here (only if you don't mind, of course)
