OVERVIEW
In this collaborative
project, middle school classes from across the eastern United
States and Canada compare when the leaves change color on trees
in each area.
Join us to see if
the leaves on your trees look the same as ours.
Each participating class
collects data and compares the following:
1. when the leaves begin
to change and reach peak color ,
2. weather conditions and
hours of sunlight,
3. patterns showing the
conditions that affect the change in color of leaves in different
locations.
Students in each group
form a hypothesis to explain what factors they believe trigger
the leaves on trees to change color.
This collaborative project
is an experiment that allows students to collect data to support
or reject their hypothesis. The data is organized at this web
site and analyzed by students at each of the collaborative sites,
to determine what factors most affect the process of the color
change in leaves.
This project requires
the participation of classes at various sites throughout the
Eastern U.S. and Canada to be truly effective. If you are a middle
school teacher or student and are interested in participating
