Chapter 24
Tiffany's View
A Week Later
I walked down the stairs quickly and walked into the living room finding it a complete mess. That's normal around here. Brian's basketball was near the TV, dolls were scattered across the carpet from Courtney playing, and blankets and chew toys were also found due to the babies. I sighed and started to get to work. It was Saturday meaning clean up day!
Brian's View
"Yes, can I speak to Dr. Johnson please?" I asked as I sat down at the kitchen table. I needed to hear some news on Michelle and Christian. I've been so busy spending time with Courtney and the babies that I haven't had time to go see them that much. I do go visit them every night though so don't think I forgot about them. I just don't stay with them for as long.
"Hello?" the doctor said into the phone.
"Hi, this is Brian Littrell, Michelle and Chris..." I was cut off by him saying, "Oh yes, how can I help you?"
"I wanted to know if there's any news on Michelle or Christian, just a little news...anything," I asked.
"Well, we do have a few things we would like to share with you and your wife," the doctor began.
"Could you please tell me?"
"Of course, let me finish," the doctor chuckled. I sighed lightly and leaned back in my chair.
"We'll start with Michelle, as you know she may be paralyzed but we did do the surgery and we have been watching her closely and taking tests now and then. It turns out that the bone will stay in place but we are still not sure if she'll be able to walk again. Her spinal cord is still trying to heal and we're waiting to see what happens with it. Only time will tell for her. The sooner she wakes up the better. Other than that her broken bones and bruises are healing just fine."
"Do you think she will be OK though?" I asked.
"I'm not sure but my hopes are high, I'm sure she'll be completely fine. She's a strong girl."
"I know," I sighed. "I know."
"Well, lets move onto Christian, he seems to be doing fine. His cuts are healing just fine and we have taken a few stitches out in some of the cuts. He'll have scars left over but I think he will be OK. I am concerned about one thing though..."
"What? What do you mean?" I asked sitting up straight.
"As you know Christian has a concussion and that is why he's in a coma," the doctor said.
"Yeah and so is Michelle," I said kind of getting confused.
"That is true but Michelle's concussion isn't as severe as Christian's. Michelle hit her head on marble, you would think that would cause a severe concussion but she didn't hit it as hard as you would think. Christian on the other hand hit his head on cement and he hit it hard. I'm worried that he might have some memory lose or not have the ability to do certain things, if he wakes up. That's an IF. We are worried that he won't wake up at all."
"Are...are you serious?" I said with a scratchy voice. I just noticed my throat turned dry on me.
"I am indeed, I'm sorry to inform you about this but don't give up hope. They are doing very well at the moment, they're healing quite quickly," the doctor said.
"Thank you doctor, could you call me if there are any changes?" I asked.
"Of course."
"Thanks."
"No problem, I'll call sometime to tell you how things are going."
"All right, bye," I said and then hung up the phone. I leaned back in my chair and ran my hands through my hair sighing deeply. That wasn't the news I was expecting to hear. They seemed to be doing so well but both of them had bad news. I wanted good news. Sure hearing that they were doing quite well was nice to hear but the other things he told me pretty much canceled the good stuff out. Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy about the good things that I heard but I can't help but really worry about the bad news.
I leaned forward in my chair and folded my arms and set my head on top of them. I couldn't stop thinking about if they were going to be OK or not. I was so worried. They were my first children and I love them so much. I can't help but worry, I mean I am their father and they are my children.
My thoughts were broken when I heard a little rustling near the entrance to the kitchen. I lifted my head and looked toward the doorway. No one was there but the rustling kept going. I stared at the doorway puzzled and then leaned over and looked on the ground. Little chubby Brian was crawling into the kitchen, blanket in hand, and sliding every so often when he crawled. He was so adorable.
"Hey buddy! What are you doin'?" I smiled at him. He stopped at the sound of my voice and looked up at me with a huge grin plastered on his face. He giggled and then moved around and sat on his bottom. He just sat there giggling up at me as I got up from the chair and went over to him.
"What's my baby doin'?" I smiled picking him up and tickling his tummy. He just giggled and threw his arms up in the air. I kissed his chubby cheek and then looked over at the clock. It was 6:57, the 7 o'clock news would be on soon. I needed to show Tiffany. I had a surprise for her that I wanted her to see. She has barely talked to me at all this week. She's so angry at me for what I did but I'm hoping for what she sees she'll forgive me. Things have been so awkward between her and me.
I kissed Brian on the cheek once more and then headed out of the kitchen and toward the living room. Right before the entrance I set Brian down and patted his bottom lightly and laughed at his reaction. He giggled so funny and then hurried off to the play room. I watched after him with a grin on my face and then heard someone singing lightly. It was Tiffany...she was humming one of our songs, "Shape Of My Heart." That sure was an old song, we recorded it years ago but she always told me it was one of her favorites from us and that made me happy.
I walked to the doorway and peered in finding Tiffany on the floor, right in front of the TV, picking up toys and blankets off the ground. She didn't notice me but then again I was trying to be quiet. I looked around to try and find the remote and finally found it resting on one of the couches arm rests. I walked silently over to it, picked it up, and then retreated back to my place in the door way. I looked at my watch and found that it was 7:07. I looked up at the TV and then raised the remote hitting the power button.
Tiffany's View
I was just picking up another one of Courtney's dolls when the TV all of a sudden switched on. I snapped my head up startled as it did that. I didn't turn my head though...the TV had my attention. A reporter was standing in front of a court house talking and a picture of Leighanne was in the corner.
"News has just been released stating that Brian Littrell, father of kidnapped children Courtney, Brian, Jr., and Brianna Littrell, has dropped all charges on Miss Leighanne Wallace. Yes, you heard me right, he dropped ALL charges. Miss Wallace was released just this afternoon and seems very happy about it.
Littrell came to court last friday and announced that him and his wife wish to see that Leighanne be dropped of all charges accused for. Littrell stated that, "I owe this to her. Many might think differently but for what she did for my family and I has been the greatest thing in the world. My wife and I have been praying for ages hoping to get our children back and Leighanne answered our prayers. I'm very thankful for her. I wish to apologize to her for calling the police and I hope that sometime in the future we'll be friends. We'll just have to wait and see."
You might be wondering why he actually did apologize. You would think Leighanne should be doing the apologizing but when we asked Brian this he only replied with saying, "I have my reasons."
As for Courtney, Brian, Jr., and Brianna, they are at home and said to be doing just fine. I'm scheduled to have an interview with Miss. Wallace sometime this week to hear her views on this whole situation so look out for that story. Back to you Jonathan..." the report ended and the TV clicked off. I just sat there with my mouth slightly open in shock. Brian did it...he let Leighanne off.
