Chapter 4: Mission of the Future
Author: Koji Nishiuchi

/What a weird dream./ Gohan thought lazily, still lying down, /Wonder if it was something I ate? Maybe I'll stay in bed a bit longer./
Unfortunately, a flock of doves collided into Gohan, fully waking him and telling him that it wasn't a dream. At least, he didn't think it was a dream. He squinted down a the distant ground and saw the pink-haired princess. Yes, definitely not a dream.
Gohan thought back at the last thing he remembered. Falling into the top of a two- dimensional black hole the same time the princess rose into it. If he'd kept his momentum, it must have been that that hurled him this far into the air.

Gohan stopped rising, then started his fall back to earth. As he built up his aura, he muttered, "Why me?" Gohan looked down at the rising ground, then saw that he was going to land in water. He eyed the princess again, and with a groan saw that she was walking away.
Gohan closed his eyes as he crashed into the water. He asked a fish that scattered away "Why is this happening to me?"
He got out of the stream soaked from Saijyen hair to Namek shoes. Again, people stared at him, some holding their nose that even the running water couldn't get off. Gohan didn't notice this time though. He was to intent on following the princess's trail. He marched in the direction he'd last seen her. He picked up his pace to try and catch up with them. When he saw them in the distance, he broke into a jog. When they hopped on a motorcycle, he broke into a run.

He reached the park wall and hurdled it without hesitation. He landed on a highway then took off after them, not noticing that a car behind him had to swerve frantically to avoid hitting him. He could see them only two cars ahead of him.
Gohan noticed something odd. All the cars, even little ones, had wheels. Also, the building's rose straight up and seemed to be made of stone. It looked familiar, he could place a picture that looked just like this place. Where was it? Of course, his history book, this was Tokyo.
Gohan nearly fell over, something which would of hurt a lot at his speed, and decided that he really needed to catch up. He leaped onto the car ahead of him, rested a full five seconds, then jumped onto the next one. He ran off the car and back onto the highway.

With the last of his energy, Gohan caught up with the motorcycle and yelled at the top of his lungs, "WOULD YOU PLEASE PULL OVER??!"
The effect was immediate, the motorcycle nearly swerved into Gohan. He jumped out of the way, but hit headfirst into a lamppost, causing a dent and a bump on his head. Blurred, he saw the motorcycle expertly come to a stop.
The rider's were getting off and running towards him. Gohan last thought before he pass out was /I wonder if I'm passing out from exhaustion, pain, or relief?/

When he woke up, his body confirmed that it had been exhaustion. He took a status check: His feet were blistered, his legs were cramped, his arms felt like they'd fall off, and his head was throbbing painfully. Gingerly, he touched the back of his skull. It hurt just enough to make him never want to do it again.
He found that his gi had been replaced by a large T-shirt, except, thankfully, his underwear. Also, he apparently had been bathed, because he no longer smelled.
/OK, they aren't going to kill me at least./
Still, he couldn't help but blush at the thought of being bathed by strangers.

He looked around at his new environment. Most notable, there was a picture of the blonde and the man sitting on the dresser beside the bed. It would have been reassuring, except for the fact that a crack separated the two happy faces.
He stepped out of the bed, then marveled at the thick carpet. It was at least an inch thick, not like his cave or even the wooden floors of his house.
 /So soft/
He walked out in a serene calm induced by the carpet and came upon a very weird scene.
The blonde, the man, and the princess were sitting on a couch together. Somehow, the females seemed to be competing with each other. The teenage blonde was fiercely hugging the man's neck while the little princess was snuggling hard into the man's side. Both were glaring at each other. The man, however, looked like he really didn't want to be a part of this. The fight ended, however, when the princess spotted Gohan.
"Oh! Your awake! I'm Renee and this is Serena my...cousin, and this is Darian, her boyfriend!"
Her voice was excited, too excited Gohan thought.
 Who could be that happy?
 "I-I'm Gohan."
"Gohan?" The blonde, Serena said, "Doesn't that mean-"
 "Fried rice." Gohan finished.
 "Uh, never mind."
"So Gohan," The man, Darian said, "How, and why did you pull us over?"
"Er, well, I ran really hard and I have to talk to the pri-"
Before Gohan could finish, the princess tackled him onto the floor. She then pulled him up, then dragged him by the ear into Darian's bedroom and slammed the door behind her.

"Listen, I can't let them know that I'm from the future. I'm here on a mission, also, I don't want Darian to know I'm his daughter, OK!
"Alright." Gohan said weakly, his face having gone pale. He, never being the target of female wrath, had never been so scared in his life. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he realized that this girl couldn't possibly hurt him. However, he couldn't hear that little voice right now.
They both walked back into the living room, Renee acting as if nothing had happened.
"So Gohan," She began, "You were saying."
"Uh, I was chasing you to find out where...you got that cool robot?"
Darian stared straight into to Gohan's eyes, looking to see if he had a sinister motive. When he found nothing, he said, "For now, I'll except that. Look, you can stay here for a week, but then I'm going to have to call the orphanage. That OK with you?"
Orphanage?! Gohan thought about that, then realized that he should be gone long before then. "OK."

A thought occurred to him, if Renee was Darian's daughter, then Darian must be the King! With a shrug, Gohan accepted that this was karma and that there was nothing he could do or say about it.
Gohan walked towards the couch to join them, feeling better than he had since he'd gotten to Crystal Tokyo. He felt relieved, that everything was finally going to be alright. He felt stronger to, measurably stronger than he was before.
As he reached to grabbed some popcorn, only to have it snatched back from Serena. All he had to do was get the princess the send him back, that wouldn't be to hard, would it? He had no idea.
