Audio to Visual
I've been wandering around the internet once more and, much to my disgust, have seen people complimenting FUNimation on how good Season 3's content is being handled...ugh! I actually grabbed my stomach to keep the chunks from flying all over the monitor! I bring forth a question, "Is having blood and gore really all that we've made it out to be?" My humble opinion says no...it is not. Our society these days has come this low? To boggle and confuse the minds of those already confused? Are we really that excited and filled with anticipation when blood is involved? Shame on us! While we sit here promoting blood and violence, we should be concerned with the plot changes! Season 3 does manage to keep the edits to a bare minimum but that does not change the fact that the audio is just plain BAD! Please, don't get me wrong, I like to see blood occasionally. But, if I want that kind of stuff, I'll turn on HBO! You may be asking, "Why does he persist in boring the heck out of me with this bravado?" I'll tell you why! Whenever I take the time to watch Season 3, it seems like something is missing! If you've felt it too, you're not alone. This little something is called audio satisfaction! Is it just me or whenever there is a suspenseful break in the action, it feels like I've put my TV on mute? I know what's missing...MUSIC! The voices are bad enough but, they drown out the already horrid music! To me, Season 3 is just a bunch of poorly-cued, emotionless voices projecting into nothingness for what seems like an eternity. The voices are getting better, no doubt about that but, why isn't Season 3 my favorite? Because it lacks all that Seasons 1 and 2 had. Seasons 1 and 2 had better music and voices. They higher quality the audio is, the higher quality the visual is. I'm sure you've heard people say, "Music doesn't make the show run!" Okay, now picture this. Vegeta taunting Zarbon on Namek with Cher's "Believe" playing in the background. Sure, it's not "running the show" but it would probably drive a few fans away...Now, if you took away the music and voices, the animation, on the other hand, would not change. The visual factor of the show remains the same in both the Japanese version and FUNi's version. The point I'm making is this: You can sit in front of the tube watching a program with good audio and be compelled to watch more while keeping in tune to the plot, awaiting all events with anxiousness or you can watch Season 3's "nothingness" repeatedly and enjoy the supreme excitement of our time: blood. Just remember to keep that mute button handy...
