Complaints Against Complaints

Author: Ritick

I've seriously had enough with DBZ fans and their online "community!" At one brief instant, I wanted to keep going on with this site, but now I'm not so sure. It's true, I have been weened off of DBZ, while others persist in doing the stuff I hate most...whining.

Every single, solitary time I go to a (in my opinion) somewhat decent DBZ site, my screen is flooded with complaints. They are far too common in our little community. After reading DB Blast's latest editorial, I'm absolutely sure that I'm tired of the crap us "fans" put out and put up with. Why do we do it? We fight amongst ourselves...even when we're on the same side of things.

No forum having a DBZ-related topic is without at least one inflamatory post, or a miscellaneous rant about FUNimation's latest deed. Why are we basing ourselves on such acts? Have we nothing better to do? Heck, the only thing I ever see on Planet Namek anymore is a plug for the latest dub episodes or some FUNi interview. Oh, please. EX is doing it too, but on the opposite side. He's whining about the latest DBZ DVD, and how it should have music playing on the menus. I'm tired of it.

Have we talked about FUNimation enough yet? When will we, then? I certainly didn't start a site to compete with FUNimation! I've had it with them! Although I don't entirely hate them, I'm beginning to strongly dislike them, as that is all the DBZ online "community" ever talks about. When we're not bashing FUNimation (or promoting them), we're fighting on message boards, arguing "who's power level is higher in the exact instant that Vegetto powers up to 54.7% of his maximum strength." Please. "I bet you don't know what page number of Volume 28 Myrai Trunks' face makes a debut!" You think? "I bet you don't know who's rice bowl that was in the background of the resturant scene in Movie 7!" Give me a break. Big deal!

Why doesn't this whole self-proclaimed "community" dedicated to "DragonBall Z" ("And only the true DragonBall!" :P) just take a collective look in the mirror and realize how pathetically stupid we all are acting? It is an anime series! It doesn't have feelings! Does it really need to be treated with "the respect and love of a willing and capable fan of many years?" I honestly don't think so. FUNi's given us many opportunities. Uncut VHS episodes, a self-improving cast, subtitled DVDs! What more do you want? Is it that bad that one of your characters has to utter "bro" under his breath? Is it that big of a deal that they added a rock to cover up a little boy's genitals? The majority of DBZ's fans are MALE!! Do you really WANT to see that stuff? Take it like it is, people. Please, just grow up!

So what if it isn't a dead-on script. So what if they "mispelled" a character's name. (IT'S AN ANIMATED SHOW, PEOPLE! THERE ISN'T A LAW THAT SAYS "YOU MUST SPELL GOKU WITH AN EXTRA 'O'!") The target audience is a little low...deal with it! No one ever told me life was fair, so why should they tell you that? I wasn't lucky enough to be born rich, so what? I dealt with it! I've adapted! Let's all grow up. If you still have the motivation and "love" that you once had for this ANIMATED SHOW after reading this editorial, good for you. Maybe you gained something out of this. Perhaps you will make some ORIGINAL content with your "love." If you suddenly realized that you have been complaining about mistreatment of an ANIME SERIES and have lost a great deal of emotional comfort--and, I guess "love" for the series as well--deal with it! May you move on to better things.

God have mercy on our souls.
