"Plotting" Creativity

I've been in the Final Fantasy mood lately, so I decided I'd do sort of a "hobbies-in-general" editorial. Knowing me, I've already crashed and burned... OO

Anywho, I recently played through FFIX, and this brought up many interesting things to mind. Now, before you read on, I just want to make sure that you've all read my review on the game in the first place. You'll get a better understanding of the stuff I'm going to be talking about here. Thanks!

One of FFIX's downfalls was its partial lack of originality. Some of the plot elements were simply borrowed from previous games of the same series. Don't get me wrong, I love Squaresoft like a mother, but that upset me to see that my favorite game series is repeating itself. Hmm, gosh now, does that seem familiar? (Edging towards DragonBall's constant plot circles.) This does take away from the total experience of entertainment to see recycled elements just thrown into a game (or anything, for that matter). That shows that the creator was slacking at the time, and didn't care whether effort was put into it at all.

I did love FFIX to the very end. It was a fabulous game, despite such qualities. Near the end, though, it was apparent that they were rushing it, as I easily spotting tidbits taken from American culture's dearest recent hits such as the Matrix, Star Wars, and even things from their native land like Gundam Wing. Also, the music seemed a little weak, like a deluded version of past greatness. I'm very sure that these problems were caused by rushing the creative process, and would have been easily avoided had they not tried to make FF games every year now. Heck, FFVII was my personal favorite and it came years after FFVI!

I fear the same may be one of the factors in what's killing FUNimation's dub. So wise up, forces ("above and beyond!") at which this is directed! Time makes the world go round, and as you have alluded so hesitantly (or not so), it also makes the world worthwhile...
