Dead Zone

Review
Synopsis: I'm sure this surprised noone at the original release...a line of movies to correspond with the DragonBall Z series was inevitable. So, being the first movie, a whole new villian is introduced who would later have his own mini-saga in the series.

While training, Piccolo is violently killed. Thus, killing Kami...all part of a devious plan devised by an evil Namekian-looking being named Garlic Jr., son of Garlic (that vegetable thing does get annoying). Garlic Jr. wanted revenge on Kami because Kami proceeded his father to the throne and, when Garlic tried to rule the Earth, Kami prevented him from succeeding and cast him into the 'Dead Zone.' The Dead Zone is a realm of complete darkness in which there is no way to get out of.

Guou (Ox-King) visits his daughter and grandson, Gohan, on a random visit to bring him books and study material (most likely requested by his Gohan's mother, Chi Chi) when, all of a sudden, Guou is shot down! Garlic Jr.'s minions appear from out of the darkness and, after Chi Chi is easily beaten, Gokou hears her scream from the distance and comes to rescue his family. Gokou finds out that their purpose was to collect the DragonBalls.

Gohan was kidnapped because his hat has one of the DragonBalls sewed on it. So, Gokou gets hold of Bulma's Radar and goes off to locate his son. Meanwhile, Garlic calls forth the dragon and succeeds in gaining immortality. Gokou continues to fly towards Garlic Jr.'s castle. Once there, it seems Kami has appeared once again! Gokou avoids Garlic Jr. and enters the castle. Garlic's minions take on Gokou while Garlic Jr. himself tackles Kami. Kuririn joins up with Gokou as does Piccolo. All three defeat the henchmen but Kami is defeated at the hands of Garlic! Piccolo and Gokou fight Garlic in his new form until Garlic Jr. opens up a Dead Zone of his own! Gohan rises up to stop him with the fear of losing his father and anger towards Garlic. Gohan withstands the power of the Dead Zone and pushes Garlic Jr. into it himself!

My Opinion: This movie is pretty good for starters. The sound effects and music is top-notch and couldn't be better! Garlic Jr. is a great villian but his downfall is that he is vertically challenged. Garlic should have transformed much earlier because, this IS only a 45 minute movie! The battles are very nice and I believe this lives up to DBZ standards.

Well, if you get the Uncut English version, there is a couple of semi-objectional words. Not really any blood so, nothing to worry about.
