Chapter Sixteen
It was hard to forget about what Nick had done, but being away for a couple of months helped. I missed him dearly. I missed all of them. When I went back to Florida for Christmas break. He did everything he could to show he was sorry. Whether it was with a homemade dinner and candles, or a romantic serenade, or just making love like there was no tomorrow.
AJ and I still stayed good friends. Brian was still my best friend. I told him everything that went on. I went to Howie for all of my business advice, and he was happy to help me. They all took care of me and watched over me like big brothers, but Kevin was the worst.
If a guy even looked at me, Kevin would glare at him. It was nice. I felt so safe, but sometimes it was too much.
While I was in Florida for a few days before Christmas, the day of my 18th birthday was approaching. We had a small dinner planned for it. It would be Brian, Howie, AJ, Kevin, Nick, Denise, and I at a nice, small dinner at my favorite restaurant. Little did I know they had something planned for me.
“Nikki, honey. Are you ready to go to the restaurant?” Nick said before giving me a kiss.
“Yeah. Where is everyone else? Shouldn’t they be here by now? We have to leave.”
“They’re all meeting us there. We should go now.”
“Ok. I’m ready.”

When we got to the restaurant, I saw all of the guys’ cars there.
“Surprise!” I can honestly say I never expected this. My whole family was there, my parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. A lot of my friends from school were also there.
“What…what…how?”
“Baby, you should have seen the look on your face.” Nick hugged me. “Happy birthday, Baby.” I went around and greeted all of my friends and family who were there. Some music business people were also there. I said hello to the band members, managers, and producers who I had also gotten to know well from the tours.
It was getting late and everyone was leaving. My family had left for their hotel. The only people left were the boys, Denise, and myself.
“I can’t believe you guys did this. Thank you so much. I love you guys.” I was just about to hug them when they stopped me.
“I think it’s time for her birthday present from us.” I looked at Brian as he spoke. “Don’t look so surprised. Of course the six of us got you a gift.”
“I thought the party was my gift.”
“Oh, that was only part of it. Right this way my dear.” Kevin took my hand and walked me towards the door. He covered my eyes and walked me outside. When I opened my eyes, they were all leaning up a brand new Dodge Durango. It was either dark purple or midnight blue. The color was so dark I couldn’t tell. All of the guys’ smiles grew as my eyes practically popped out of my head.
Howie walked towards me and took me by the hand. “Come on. I know you want to look inside.” He opened my hand and put the keys in it. I was still in a daze as he walked me towards the car.
“I know this can’t be true. This has to be a joke. Where’s my real present?” They all laughed at me.
“This is your real present, unless you don’t want it. I’m sure we could still return it.”
“Very funny, AJ. These keys are in my hand now. Even if it was a joke, I don’t think you could have gotten it back if you tried.” I sat in my new car and breathed in the scent.
“Well, sweetheart. Why don’t you drive me home? AJ can go alone in his car.”
“Ok, Mom. That sounds good. Thank you so much guys. I really appreciate it.” I went around and hugged and thanked each of the guys individually.
“I don’t believe it. I never thought I would see her cry.”
“I’m not crying. There’s something in my eye.” They rolled their eyes at me and said their good-byes.
Denise and I climbed into my Durango and drove home.
“You know, now you’re an adult. It you were to choose to not sleep at home tonight, that would be your decision to make.” She smiled at me, but I blushed.
“Thank you.” I dropped Denise off at home and left for Nick’s house.
